Saturday 21st January: Sticker 7 St Dominick 0 Sticker bounced back after last weeks disappointing events with a good all round performance without inspirational skipper Andy Avery who was away on a stag weekend. Andy will carry on with the Player/Managers job with experienced Roger Green as his assistant. The game started in a brisk fashion with Sticker kicking off with a very strong westerly wind behind them and quickly got into their stride and battling for every ball. The line up was changed with Ross Pinhammer in the starting line-up for once on his favoured side on the right and he saw plenty of the ball in the opening exchanges. The first goal however came from Jason Warne who had already taken a corner on the left which caused the away sides keeper an awkward moment and his second one caused the keeper even more problems as he was unable to keep the inswinging corner from sailing into the goal. 1-0. This was the chance for Sticker to take complete charge and take it they did! With Andrew Butler playing centre midfield he was taking the corners from the right and it was his second that was sent in with real pace and Ross Pinhammer met it beautifully with his head to bullet it into the top corner. 2-0. The third killer goal came from Ben Rosevear who was having a big say in midfield and he managed a crisp shot from the edge of the box and it fired into the bottom corner. H/T. 3-0. The second half started with the wind now in St Dominicks favour but Sticker took control straight away when Andrew Butler now switching to his normal position wide on the right cut inside and fed Ben Rosevear who fired Sticker into a 4-0 lead. With Jason Warne also switching back into centre midfield the home side were now in complete control and the supporters felt there were still more goals to come and come they did! The next from hard working Craig Coad after a superb pass from Dan Meens split the away sides defence Craig Fired the ball low and hard into the bottom corner. 5-0. With the game now safe Roger Green introduced the pacy Josh Higman on the left side and what an inspiration this was as Josh beat his man and finished clinically and he had only been on the pitch a few seconds. 6-0. Sticker were still not finished and Ben Rosevear once again managed to steer the ball in with what looked like a slight miscue but with pace for his hat-trick.7-0. The miss of the day though game from skipper for the day Chris Kitson who received a square ball from his strike partner Craig Coad and as the ball bobbled just before it reached Chris he could only flick it past the keeper and watch as it agonisingly went the wrong side of the post! Never mind Kitsy the touch will come back! F/T. A good all round team performance with all the players battling away and yet still moving the ball around with confidence none more so than Bradley Ralph who was solid at the back and Lewis Prince playing along side him also good solid play from both Dan Meens and Adam Soloman both getting forward at every opportunity. Also the introduction of U18 player Kynan Clarke as a substitute and he played with assurance. The team now have a week off and the next game is away to Launceston on February 4th. Team: R.Rosevear, D.Meens(K.Clarke), B.Ralph, L.Prince, A.Soloman, J.Warne, A.Butler(M.Lloyd), B.Rosevear, R.Pinhammer(J.Higman), C.Coad, C.Kitson. Man of the match: Ben Rosevear his first hat-trick for the club and good solid hard work in midfield and good to see him getting forward into scoring positions again. Well done Ben!
Saturday 14th January: Sticker 2 Morwenstow 3 Sticker started this ECPL Premier game against a lively Morwenstow side on a cold windy winters afternoon who are always a difficult team to overcome and so it proved to-day. The away side took the lead against the run of play when a defensive slip allowed one of the lively forwards in and he cooly scored. 0-1. Sticker however raised their game and equalised when a good ball into the box was pushed wide on the right and Craig Coad scored with a low hard drive into the far corner of the goal. 1-1. The ball was difficult to control for both teams especially down the left side near the grandstand because of the wind but Sticker stuck to their task and Andrew Butler who was drifting in and out of the right side saw Jason Warne sprinting through the centre and crossed an accurate ball right onto Jason's boot who steered it into the top right corner to make it 2-1. The score remained the same at half time and gave the supporters time to try and warm up with a cuppa. The second half started with Sticker facing this cold wind but still having plenty of the play and although were creating good openings were trying too many long shots outside the area rather than working the ball in. They were mindful of the wind and were continuing with their style of keeping the ball on the ground and keeping possession but were punished with one too many pass backs to the keeper which was their undoing. Keeper Rob Rosevear in goal is never the most confident with the ball passed back to him when he has opposing attackers homing in, was about to retrieve a pass back, attempting to hoof the ball upfield when he slipped and whilst he did manage to get up and get his foot to the ball he could only hit it against the striker and it rebounded into the empty net. 2-2. Morwenstow were over the moon to get this lucky break and finally their persistent quick breaks brought a winning goal against a deflated home side when after good work down the right found an unmarked striker who scored with a well placed shot wide of the keepers outstretched arm. F/T. 2-3. This has done Stickers promotion hopes a real blow and will need to regroup and get back to winning ways, they face St Dominick next weeks at home and after this out of the ten remaining league games only two are at home. Team: R.Rosevear, D.Means, A.Avery, B.Ralph, A.Soloman(M.Lloyd), L.prince, B.Rosevear, J.Warne, A.Butler, C.Coad, C.Kitson(R.Pinhammer).
Monday 2nd January: Sticker 5 St Teath 0 Sticker got back to winning ways with a good result in this quarter final of the Rowett League Cup against St Teath who defeated Sticker at the same stage last season. The game started off at a brisk pace and the pitch although not looking its best was perfectly playable thanks to the sterling work of the groundstaff and with Sticker pressing forward at every opportunity it was not long before they took the lead and the goal came rather fortuitously from Dan Meens for only his second goal for the club. Dan on one his forays forward played a one-two with Andrew Butler and was attempting a cross which took a wicked deflection and looped over the away keepers head and into the net much to Dans delight. 1-0. Sticker were well on top now and goal no.2 followed soon after when Andrew Butler had drifted inside and from the edge of the box fired in shot that was parried away to the feet of Craig Coad who buried the ball into the far corner. 2-0. Its amazing what a goal does to a strikers confidence as Craig was now playing with confidence holding the ball up and passing the ball to his colleagues feet. It was Craig who managed to get into the penalty only to be brought down unfairly and to give referee John Harris an easy decision to award a penalty. Up stepped Chris Kitson to score with ease. 3-0. This was also a confidence booster for Chris as he has had a lean spell of late and he added an extra yard of pace to his game. With Stickers best recorded crowd of the season (100) and the home supporters hoping for more goals no more came in this opening half and full credit to St Teath for still plugging away and trying to create an opening without much success, only a few long range shots which keeper Rob Rosevear was able to deal with. H/T. 3-0. The second half started and with the home side conscious of the fact they do give away goals just after the restart played patiently and kept the ball moving even passing to each other at the back when there were no openings up front, players from both sides were finding the conditions somewhat difficult as the playing surface cut up, not being able to turn quickly and slipping and sliding all over the park. There was another occasion when Andrew Butler was chasing a ball in the penalty area when he was tripped and a more blatant penalty you will never see but to nearly everyone's amazement the referee waved the appeals away! Manager Phil Dingle decided it was time for a change and brought on Josh Higman in place of Martin Giles and proved crucial as Josh scored no. 4 with a superb chip over the advancing keeper.4-0. Sticker were now in full control continued to play keep ball and Phil brought on Jordan Dingle and the returning from injury Lewis Prince to see out the remainder of the game and the fifth and final goal was scored by Chris Kitson who scored with a fine header from a super cross from Josh Higman which was driven with pace from the left and sailed over the defence where Chris was waiting. F/T. 5-0. Sweet revenge for Phil and his team! What a difference when a team comes to play football! Sticker now await their opponents in the semi-final! Team: R.Rosevear, D.Meens, A.Avery, B.Ralph, A.Soloman, M.Giles(J.Higman), B.Rosevear(J.Dingle), J.Warne(L.Prince), A.Butler, C.Coad, C.Kitson. Man of the Match: Joint Strikers Craig Coad for his well taken goal and holding the ball up well in difficult conditions and the returning to scoring ways Chris Kitson! Saturday 31st \december: Sticker 2 Probus 2 On the last day of 2011 Sticker faced their local rivals Probus which is always a very physical game but to-day a less than adequate referee G.Rickard was appointed to officiate the game which was a shame as he ruined what was at times an entertaining game. The author of this report doesn't usually berate the referees performance as we all know what a difficult job they have but they have to be strong when they need to be and this one shied away from his responsibilities! The game started at a brisk pace with some flying tackles going in, the worst one early in the first half on Jason Warne was worthy of a red card and it was only the strength of Jason which kept him from having a serious injury this was a red card offence but the offending player was just shown a yellow. If the referee had been strong at this time he may have got a better grip of the game alas he didn't. Sticker were however having the better of the play and scored a fine goal when Andrew Butler sent in a cracking shot which took a slight deflection before flying into top corner. 1-0. With some good play from both wings alas the crosses wern't finding their mark. One corner on the right almost produced another goal when Bradley Ralph met the ball near post which just flashed wide of the goal. Probus however produced a fine move which produced the equaliser when after a good run down the left and a good early cross found the Probus striker whose crisp shot beat Rob Rosevear in goal. 1-1. The score stayed the same up to half time. The second half commenced and with both sides creating chances it was Probus who scored first when Carl Rickard who had come on as a first half substitute ran through down the left and scored with a cross shot which found the corner of the net. 1-2. Sticker were now chasing the game and with Chris Kitson who has had a barren run of three games harried the left back into making a mistake wide on the right and sent in a lovely square ball when he saw Ross Pinhammer flying in at the far post, Ross however was unable to convert the cross as he blazed the shot wide!! It was time for a substitution and on came Martin Giles and straight away he was involved in the action and after a super cross from Andrew Butler he scored the equaliser when he leapt to the ball in amongst a group of players to head the ball home. 2-2. Sticker were now gunning for the win but still had to be aware of breakaways as Probus had brought on the other Rickard twin Lee which meant two very speedy players up front. Both of these players had shots but fortunately they shot wide. Then as the game was heading for a draw came the most bizarre event I have ever witnessed in a football match. Craig Coad was fouled in the back by the Probus player/manager Chris Davey in the penalty area and the referee duly blew his whistle for a foul but seemed confused as to what decision he had to make and to everyone's amazement he gave a drop ball and told Craig to gently pass the ball back to the keeper instead of what had to be a penalty!! There then came a ridiculous incident when the referee red carded Martin Giles for hauling player/manager Chris Davey to the ground because he was being half strangled! The referee didn't see either incident as he had his back to it. If he had seen it it would have been red cards for both! The game petered out to as far as Sticker were concerned a disappointing draw. F/T. 2-2. The scenes after the game between supporters berating the referee is the noisiest I have ever witnessed so it wasn't just me being biased!! Manager Phil Dingle will be heartened by the character the team showed against some really robust tackles with the exception of Martin Giles no other bookings for the Sticker players but at least four for Probus. Now for the quarter final of the Rowett cup on Monday 2nd of January. Team: R.Rosevear, A.Soloman, B.Ralph,A.Avery, D.Means(J.Walker), A.Butler, R.Pinhammer(M.Giles), B.Rosevear,J.Warne, C.Coad, C.Kitson.
Saturday 17th December: Sticker 1 Saltash 2 On a cold and windy December Saturday with their biggest crowd of the season due to most of the other local games being postponed Sticker forgot to wear their shooting boots! On a good playing surface In the first few minutes Craig Coad was through on goal but alas blazed his shot Just over the bar and other chances in the very mediocre first half were few and far between from both sides even though Sticker had more of the play but the passing at times was woeful and too many long balls that the wind just took to-wards the Saltash keeper! H/T. 0-0. Sticker started the second half and after a promising attack which broke down they lost possession and Saltash mounted a counter attack and the defence managed to clear the ball away for a throw in which was taken quickly and the resultant cross sailed over the head of Andy Avery with keeper Rob yelling away, away instead of collecting it himself the ball found the head of an unmarked Saltash striker who gleefully headed the ball into the net. 0-1. This so often happens with Sticker they seem to lose concentration just after half time! They had to do something now and with Andrew Butler now finding space down the right side he became the player most likely to create something and his crosses although good quality just weren't finding his team mates. However he himself did get a fine opportunity to equalise but he also managed to strike the ball over the bar and have another effort go narrowly wide. It seemed one of those days when things weren't going well for team and they couldn't score! Even Chris Kitson managed to hit one over the bar. Unlike in previous weeks when the team weren't playing their best football they still managed to find the back of the net. So consequently it was no surprise when from another attack by the away side saw Sticker concede another goal when a ball was not cleared and a crisp shot found the corner of the net. 0-2. It was time to inject some fresh legs so on came Ross Pinhammer for the ineffective Matt Lloyd and Martin Giles for Adam Soloman who had been sick at half time and what a difference this made especially down the left flank where Martin with his strong powerful running was starting to worry the Saltash defence. There was another shot from Jason Warne which was heading for the far corner only to get a slight deflection and go out for a corner. They did finally score a consolation goal a few minutes before the end of the match when Martin Giles met a Ross Pinhammer corner with his head and scored into the corner of the goal.1-2. This had been Sticker's best period of football in the whole match but alas it was too little too late, much to the disappointment of the loyal supporters. F/T. 1-2. Manager Phil Dingle will be also be disappointed and probably annoyed with his team with their lack of cohesion at times and not putting the numerous chances they had away. It wasn't as if Saltash were the better team or the best we have played this season but they had just two chances and scored both of them! At least they now have a week off for Xmas to recharge their batteries before the next home game on New Years eve against local rivals Probus who are never easy opponents, this game is quickly followed by a quarter final match against St Teath on the Monday 2nd January which will also be a stern test and one I'm sure Phil and his team will want to win as this was the team that defeated them at the same stage last season! Team: R.Rosevear, D.Meens, A.Avery, B.Ralph, A.Soloman(M.Giles), M.Lloyd(R.Pinhammer), B.Rosevear(J.Dingle), J.Warne, A.Butler, C.Coad, C.Kitson. Saturday 10th December: Sticker 3 Wadebridge 1 On a cold but still December Saturday afternoon Sticker started the game in confident mood and were three goals up by half time without playing to their full ability. They needed a goal to settle themselves and it came from Jason Warne with a well placed strike from the edge of the box through a crowded area. 1-0. The team were playing well defensively but the passes forward weren't always finding their men and overhitting their passes. Playing the long high ball instead of keeping it on the deck. They were creating problems for the away team though and scored another on the half hour when Chris Kitson received the ball in the centre of the park and superbly played in his strike partner Craig Coad who controlled the ball before smashing into the net giving the keeper no chance. 2-0. The third and what was to be their final goal came when skipper Andrew Avery played in Andrew Butler with a superb defence splitting pass and as the away sides keeper came rushing out Andrew slipped the ball to his left and shot into the waiting empty net. H/T. 3-0. The second half commenced with the Wadebridge side showing more determination and pushed Sticker back on the defence but they weathered this storm and started to once again attack on both flanks with Andrew Butler being the more effective than the tiring Matt Lloyd. With a third of the game to play manager Phil Dingle replaced Matt Lloyd with Ross Pinhammer and Dan Meens with Josh Higman and although Wadebridge scored just after this to put their hopes up, Sticker were gaining more possession and particularly Josh Higman who slotted in very well at right back and used his pace to make good clearances and to make excellent attacking forays and it was from his crosses that Sticker should have and normally would have increased their lead, both chances fell to top scorer Chris Kitson, the first at the back post where he correctly headed the ball down only to se the ball just go the wrong side of the post and the second where the ball came to him quickly and as he was leaning back he scooped it over the bar.( Never mind Chris your time will come again and at least you are helping your Strike partner to increase his goal tally!!) There were other chances to score when a super drive from Ross Pinhammer just went over the bar. Evergreen Phil Dingle came on in place of Ben Rosevear who had been the subject of some crude tackles and had been booked by the referee for a couple of late ones of his own to settle the side down and saw out the final quarter of the game. F/T. 3-1. Manager Phil Dingle will hope his players can get back to playing the way he knows they are capable of especially against next weeks opponents Saltash as they will, I'm sure provide a sterner test. Team: R.Rosevear, D.Meens(J.Higman), A.Averry, B.Ralph, A.Soloman, A.Butler, M.Lloyd(R.Pinhammer), J.Warne, B.Rosevear(P.Dingle), C.Coad, C.Kitson. Man of the Match: J.Higman, Not normally a right back but slotted into the job with aplomb and showed what a fine player he is! Saturday 3rd December: St Dominick 1 Sticker 4 Sticker started this ECPL premier game straight away on the front foot and created some good opportunities from the right wing play of Andrew Butler but could not direct the ball past the St Dominicks keeper. Fifteen minutes into the game and top goal scorer Chris Kitson became provider when he crossed the ball from the right into the path of Matt Lloyd who applied the finishing touch to put the Burngullow based outfit ahead. 0-1. Five minutes later Adam Soloman was nearly cut in half from a reckless challenge and from the free kick Jason Warne curled in one of his trademark balls into the box where Andrew Avery hit the ball over his left shoulder to score. 0-2. Sticker dominated the rest of the half without adding to their tally. In the second half St Dominick applied more pressure and scored from a deflected shot that keeper Rob Rosevear had covered until it changed direction. 1-2. Sticker weathered this fifteen minutes of pressure and began to once again to gain control. Adam Soloman had to leave the field due to the knock he received in the first half and was replaced by Martin Giles who continued where Adam had left off by making attacking runs down the left flank. Following a corner Bradley Ralph turned smartly (Honestly he did!) in the box and smashed the ball into the top corner. 1-3. From another cross from the right Martin Giles rose at the far post to send in a bullet header into the net to make the score 1-4. Lewis Prince was replaced to protect his groin strain and on came evergreen player manager Phil Dingle to add his considerable experience to the remainder of the game and slotted into centre midfield keeping the ball moving with quick simple passing. Andrew Butler was unlucky not to increase Stickers lead when he saw his shot from twenty five yards strike a post! With the Sticker back four of Dan Meens, Andrew Avery, BradleyRalph and Martin Giles providing a solid platform, Sticker saw out the rest of the game to pick up three hard earned points and moved them up to second position in the league just three points behind leaders Torpoint. Phil and his team will be pleased with the result and will want to continue this form against next weeks opponents Wadebridge and gain revenge against the team who inflicted Stickers first defeat of this season! Team: R.Rosevear, D.Meens, A.Avery, B.Ralph, A.Soloman(M.Giles), L.Prince(P.Dingle), J.Warne, M.Lloyd, A.Butler, C.Coad, C.Kitson. Man of the Match: Andrew Avery!
Saturday 26th November: Sticker 3 Tavistock 2 Sticker started this game on a cold and blustery November afternoon against a strong competitive Tavistock side who more than held their own. The Sticker supporters thought that the team were about to take the lead when Craig Coad did all the hard work and found space inside the box only to see his placed shot go agonisingly wide of the far post. They did however take the lead when finally Matt Lloyd using his pace ran through and scored just inside the near post. 1-0. Tavistock equalised though due to a defensive mistake when their striker homed in on goal and beat Rob Rosevear with a good strike. 1-1. Sticker though did take the lead again when a wicked Jason Warne corner came in and Bradley Ralph headed the ball on over the goal line before the ball was hooked clear. The referee did signal the ball had crossed the line and this was confirmed by the very fair minded Tavistock linesman. H/T. 2-1. The second half resumed and Sticker were on the back foot from the start and for the majority of the half too. Tavistock equalised early on when a ball was knocked over the head of Andy Avery and one of the lively Tavistock players nipped and placed the ball wide of the advancing Rob in goal. 2-2. Sticker regrouped and the tiring Matt Lloyd was getting into good positions but his finall deliveries were delayed too much. Sticker did take the lead once again when another wicked Jason Warne corner was whipped in and the in ensuing melee where the ball seemed to cross the line it was finally nodded in by Chris Kitson to ease the concerns of all at Burngullow. 3-2. Manager Phil Dingle brought on Ross Pinhammer and Josh Higman and finally himself to add some fresh legs and to add some stability and they managed to see the game out but not before Rob in goal made two outstanding saves one which was from a shot which was deflected which was going into the net and Rob managed to change direction to push the ball around the post. To be fair the Tavistock midfield were very solid and the forwards very lively and caused the home side all sorts of problems but a lot of the time the Sticker put themselves under pressure when the didn't seem to control the ball well and the passing was poor and the midfield was ineffective. But a win is a win.F/T. 3-2. Which puts Sticker into second spot in the league after Torpoint managed to beat Plymouth Parkway. Team: R.Rosevear, D.Meens, A.Avery, B.Ralph, A.Soloman, L.Prince(R.Pinhammer), A.Butler(J.Higman), M.Lloyd(P.Dingle) J.Warne, C.Coad, C.Kitson. Man of the Match: Once again Bradley Ralph who made some great interceptions especially near the end of the game to keep Sticker ahead!
Saturday 19th November: Sticker 9 St Stephens Borough 1 Sticker had all the early play in the opening half of this game playing the ball around comfortably making good use of both flanks and finally broke the stubborn away sides defence when Chris Kitson this time was provider got the ball out wide and squared the ball into the path of Jason Warne who stroked the ball home to score his second goal of the season. 1-0. Sticker were now creating chances with players breaking through but the Borough keeper made some good blocking saves to deny them. H/T. 1-0. The second half started and Sticker quickly got off the mark when Chris Kitson ran through and his shot was once again blocked by the away sides keeper, the ball fell to a defender who for some reason passed it straight back to Kitsy who said thanks before slotting the ball home. 2-0. KItsy got another soon after when he picked up a loose ball and beat his man then fired in a terrific shot. 3-0. Not long after Kitsy was again a provider when he saw his strike partner Craig Coad running in on left side so he sent in a perfect cross for Coady to dive and head a perfect goal. 4-0. Andrew Butler got on the score sheet next to make it 5-0. Manager Phil Dingle then brought on subs. Matt Lloyd, Ross Pinhammer and Josh Higman to try and run the legs off the away team and it worked as they managed a further four scored by Lewis Prince, Ross Pinhammer (2) and finally Josh Higman. 9-0. St Stephens Borough were always full of running but came up against a resolute Sticker defence where Bradley Ralph was once again outstanding ably supported by skipper Andy Avery, Dan Meens and Adam Soloman. They did however spoil it somewhat when Lewis Prince gave away a needless penalty which was dispatched with confidence. F/T. 9-1. Phil and the team will be pleased with the result as well as the way they played the ball around and being patient in the build up and finally getting the result they deserved but I'm sure the opposition next week (Tavistock) will be a much sterner test! Team: R.Rosevear, D.Meens, A.Avery, B.Ralph, A.Soloman, A,Butler(J.Higman), L.Prince, J.Warne, B.Rosevear(R.Pinhammer), C.Coad(M.Lloyd), C.Kitson.Man of the Match: Bradley Ralph once again dominating proceedings in defence and made good use of his full backs! Also on two occasions made great crossfield passes!
Saturday 12th November: Sticker 1 Plymouth Parkway 2 The Sticker players will wonder how they lost this ECPL Premier game when they dominated the first half completely and scored on the twentieth minute from a Lewis Prince free kick that took a deflection off the away sides wall and beat the keeper. 1-0. Sticker had a chance prior to this when a loose ball fell to Jason Warne but he couldn't get over the ball and he hit over the bar. Sticker then had a great chance to go two up when Andrew Butler found himself through on the left with just the keeper to beat and the author of this report would have put money on him scoring but instead of shooting early to take the keeper by surprise, he paused and chipped the keeper instead and his shot hit the crossbar and the ball fell just wide of Chris Kitson. Kitsy himself then had a chance when the ball came to him very close to the goal and he hit a terrific shot but the keeper made a great block. Shortly Andrew Butler was set free on the right and he went on a great run and finished it off with a great drive heading for the far corner of the goal but the keeper once again flung himself to the right to push the ball around the post for a corner. Then just on the stroke of half time Parkway ventured forward and from the resultant corner the Sticker defence for once failed to clear and the away sides centre half scored the equaliser. H/T. 1-1. The second half started in much the same vein with Sticker pushing on but Parkway seem to have gained confidence from the equalising goal and had made a couple of substitutions and were counter attacking with purpose and scored what was to be the winner when after good movement down the left side an early ball was played into the centre and their striker hit it first time and gave Rob Rosevear no chance.1-2. From then on Sticker tried hard to prise open the Parkway defence but once again their keeper kept them in the game, one of the best moves of the game ended with a superb cross found the head of Matt Lloyd who had come on as a sub. only to see the away sides keeper fling himself to his left and palm the ball away again this time to the left of Craig Coad who was unable to steer it into the net. Sticker had one more opportunity to score when from corner Andy Avery headed the ball wide of the keeper only to find a defender this time standing on the goal line to make a crucial clearance. F/T. 1-2. Phil and the team will be bitterly disappointed in losing this game after dominating most of the play and will rue the missed chances in the first half when they could have put the game out of sight but Parkway are always difficult to beat and have some fine players. Hopefully they can put this defeat out of their minds and concentrate on next weeks home game against St Stephens Borough. Team: R.Rosevear, D.Meens, B.Ralph, A.Avery, A.Soloman, J.Warne(M.Lloyd), A.Butler, L.Prince(R.Pinhammer), B.Rosevear,C.Coad, C.Kitson. Man of the Match: The Plymouth Parkway Keeper who made some outstanding sav
Saturday 5th November: St Stephens Borough 1 Sticker 3 Sticker stared this game on the front foot and were one nil up when a good cross from Andrew Butler was finished from four yards out by in form, top striker Chris Kitson. 0-1. Sticker lost their way from this point taking too many touches on a very small 3g pitch which lead to players being crowded out. The chances that the home team did create were shots from distance and Rob Rosevear was equal to them. In the second half borough gained possession on the halfway line and their midfield flooded forward. From a good cross on the right they found themselves on equal terms. 1-1. Sticker now started to move the ball around creating good opportunities without scoring. Craig Coad was upended in the box but the referee waived away the Sticker appeals. With Sticker needing to change the point of attack on came Matt Lloyd and Martin Giles and this had the desired effect as they were rewarded with Lloydy supplying the cross for Kitsy to put the Burngullow based outfit ahead 1-2. Number three soon followed again through Kitsy much to the relief of the travelling Sticker supporters. 1-3. Sticker were still giving away possession and evergreen Phil Dingle and calmed the play down passing the ball easily and seeing out the last fifteen minutes. F/T. 1-3. The Sticker squad will feel relieved that Chris Kitson scored his fifth hat trick of the season and that the back for of Dan Meens, Bradley Ralph, Andy Avery and Adam Soloman were in top form to ensure all three points came back to Sticker. Now for the toughest test so far this season next Saturday against unbeaten Plymouth Parkway who are always difficult to overcome! Team: R.Rosevear, D.Meens, B.Ralph, A.Avery, A.Soloman, R.Pinhammer(M.Lloyd), J.Warne(M.Giles), L.Prince, A.Butler(P.Dingle), C.Coad, C.Kitson. Man of the Match: Bradley Ralph again dominant at the heart of the defence!
Saturday 29th October: Sticker 8 Launceston 2 Sticker started this ECPL premier league game on a cold and mizzly October afternoon after a disappointing defeat the previous week and were soon on the attack and were two up within twenty minutes after good work from Jason Warne winning the ball and feeding it forward for the irrepressible Chris Kitson to slot the ball home. 2-0. Launceston who were looking dangerous on the attack got a free kick just on the edge of penalty area and the resultant shot was placed wide of keeper Rob Rosevear. Kitsy scored his fourth hat trick of this season when Ben Rosevear who had made a strong run down the left and having a great shot parried by the Launceston keeper right into his path and he made no mistake to make it 3-1. Just before half time Sticker were awarded a free kick on the right and up stepped Lewis Prince who only had one thing on his mind and that was to hit one of his rocket shots and he didn't disappoint firing it in straight and low into the corner of the net. H/T. 4-1.( Chris Kitson was awarded two mementos for scoring his 300+ goals for Sticker in the clubhouse before the game photographed by the St. Austell Voice) Sticker started the second half kicking down the pitch with the wind behind them and playing the ball to feet in difficult conditions as the pitch was very wet on top which at times held the ball up. This did not stop Sticker from scoring more goals and got four more and started when a great crossfield pass from Lewis Prince found the unmarked Craig Coad who controlled the ball perfectly went round the defender and drilled the ball home. 5-1. Then Andrew Butler got into the act and blasted the ball wide of the keeper into the corner of the net. 6-1. Then came the goal of the game when Kitsy received a great ball that sailed over the defence and after he brought the ball down as cool as you like he curled it over the keeper to score his fourth goal. 7-1. Launceston were still trying to play football and were rewarded with a penalty for handball which was duly scored. 7-2. Sticker were still not finished and brought on Josh Higman and Ross Pinhammer for some fresh legs and were still in a very attacking mood and two stunning crosses went just past the rushing forwards and Josh has a super left foot shot well saved by the keeper. Dan Meens who had come forward sent in a dangerous hard driven cross near the crossbar which confused the away sides keeper and the ball fell to sniffer Kitsy to score his fifth goal and make it 8-2. F/T. A much better performance from the team with them all working for each other and good to see Bradley Ralph back after his week in the sun, always a threat at corners and battles away in defence and slows the game down to great effect. The defence were very mean to-day in not allowing Launceston many opportunities. Team: R.Rosevear, D.Meens, A.Avery, B.Ralph, A.Soloman(P.Dingle), J.Warne, B.Rosevear(J.Higman), L.Prince, A.Butler(R.Pinhammer), C.Coad, C.Kitson. Man of the match: L.Prince A cracking goal and two great passes to set up his team mates to score! Saturday 22nd October: BudeTown 4 Sticker 2 Sticker started this ECPL league game at Bude wanting to consolidate on their excellent performance at Bere ALston in the Rowett League the previous week but as it turned out failed to live up to the challenge! The home side as expected were quite lively in the opening minutes down both flanks and their first goal came from a hard driven cross into the Sticker box with not a Bude player in sight, Skipper Andy Avery alas scored a great headed goal past the helpless Rob Rosevear in goal. 1-0. This lifted the home side to push through a tentative Sticker defence and the lively Steve Box got in behind which looked an offside position and ran on to score. 2-0. With the Sticker supporters thinking "not again lads" Sticker gradually started to push forward especially down the left flank with Lewis Prince and Matt Lloyd linking up well and it was from this combination that Sticker managed to get a goal back when Lewis cut inside and after three unchallenged strides let fly with one of his rocket shots which swerved to the left and then the right before hitting the top corner of the net. 2-1. The second half started with Sticker firmly in control and pushing forward all the time and did everything but score, hitting the crossbar twice, missing a golden opportunity from a yard out and too much punting the ball upfield instead of playing their usual passing to feet game. They did however score an equaliser from Craig Coad with a crisp volley after a driven corner from Andrew Butler. 2-2. Most people would have thought now that Sticker would have gone on to win but rather than press home their obvious advantage allowed the home side one of the very few attacking moments in this half to make a foray down the right and the ball was crossed and not cleared and consequently their striker nipped in and scored just inside the post. Sticker came roaring back and had a great shot saved by the Bude keeper who tipped the shot over the bar and then an absolutely super drive from the unusually quiet Andrew Butler that whistled inches past the far post which the keeper just watched with relief. There then was a bizarre moment when the referee penalised the home keeper for not releasing the ball and awarded Sticker a free kick just inside the box but instead of keeping their heads and letting the home side organise a wall the Sticker players lost their heads and tried to kick the ball through into the goal with the Bude players only a few feet away and the ball was cleared, so another opportunity lost. Then Bude finally settled matters when they scored a fourth goal when the defence didn't clear the ball and the Bude player ran on and shot past the advancing Rob Rosevear. F/T 4-2. Manager Phil Dingle will be very disappointed with the overall display from his players especially with so many misplaced passes and from the usually reliable midfield, their passing/tackling game was less than expected. The team will have to try and get some more consistency back as they have some tough matches ahead, starting with Launceston next week. Team: R.Rosevear, D.Meens, A.Avery, M.Giles, L.Prince(A.Soloman), M.Lloyd(R.Pinhammer), J.Warne, B.Rosevear, A.Butler, C.Coad, C.Kitson.
Saturday 15th October: Bere Alston 1 Sticker 4 Sticker progress into the next round (Quarter Final) of the Rowett League with a hard working performance from the whole squad. They started the game on the front foot and continued throughout the whole ninety minutes. Chris KItson scored after ten minutes when Dan Meens passed to Craig Coad who delivered a good cross for Kitsy to slot home. 0-1. Number two followed when Kitsy reacted first to a loose ball in the six yard box to score his 300th goal for the club.H/T 0-2. Just after half time Bere Alston scored to make it 1-2. This only spurred Sticker on and Kitsy soon made it 1-3 when he completed his hat-trick on sixty minutes with a great shot from the edge of the box that flew into the top corner of the net. With Bradley Ralph commanding form at the back and Jason Warne enjoying his best game yet for the club it was soon 1-4 when Craig Coad capped his industrious display with a neat finish at the far post from the lively wing play of Andrew Butler. With the game safe Craig Coad was replaced by Ross Pinhammer who showed what an asset he is with clever runs and good touches. The tiring Matt Lloyd was replaced by Sticker favourite Jordan Dingle who again linked up with Ben Rosevear in the Sticker midfield. Ross P. had a goal disallowed for offside which seemed harsh and was unlucky not score when put through by a great pass from Jordan Dingle. Dan Meens was replaced by the evergreen Phil Dingle and Sticker saw out the rest of the game comfortably. F/T 1-4. Team: R.Rosevear, D.Meens(P.Dingle), A.Avery, B.Ralph, L.Prince, J.Warne, A.Butler, B.Rosevear, M.Lloyd(J.Dingle), C.Coad(R.Pinhammer), C.Kitson. Man of the match: The remarkable Chris Kitson 301 goals now for the club and what better way to achieve it than with his third hat trick of the season!! Saturday 8th October: Troon 5 Sticker 1 Sticker started this Senior Cup 1st round tie against Combination team Troon and forced two quick corners and should have taken the lead but missed the target with two free headers inside the six yard box. From this point onwards Sticker went from bad to worse to woeful!! With players overcomplicating things, with too many touches and going nowhere and allowing the Troon players as much time on the ball as they would wish for. Troon led at half time by one goal to nil when the ball was given away in front of the back four. H/T. 1-0. In the second half Sticker again tried to play as eleven individuals with the back four so far away from each other they would need to communicate via text!! Troon were two up when they were allowed to score unchallenged from the halfway line onwards. 2-0. From the kick-off Sticker replied with a goal from Chris Kitson who scored from yard after a goal mouth scramble. 2-1. Far from being a spark to light a comeback within two minutes Troon were 3-1 ahead when a floated ball in the box was missed by keeper Rob Rosevear and with no defender awake to clear the danger or be within four yards of their opposition it was tucked home. It was soon 4-1 when a free kick was floated in and bamboozled the keeper and sailed in over his head!!!!! The fifth goal came when Troon broke away at walking pace with the Sticker back four again so far apart you could have driven several busses through and were left floundering! A simple pass into the back of the net wrapped up the afternoon. This was only what Troon deserved as they worked hard all afternoon for their manager and club and are a credit to the combination league, as for Sticker it was a horror show and if the play like this next week against Bere Alston in the 2nd round of the Rowett league cup they will get a hammering! Team: R.Rosevear, D.Meens, B.Ralph, A.Avery, L.Prince(P.Dingle), B.Rosevear, A.Butler, J.Warne, R.Pinhammer(M.Lloyd), C.Coad, C.Kitson. Saturday 1st October: Sticker 4 Elburton Villa 0 Sticker started this ECPL premier league game on a warm and glorious sunny October afternoon and straight away were on the back foot with Elburton Villa making strong attacks but the Sticker defence held firm and the team started to make some half decent forays into their opponents half down either flank with Jason Warne making some great runs into the box. Sticker were gradually getting a firmer grip on the game by making use of both flanks with Andrew Butler on the right and Ross Pinhammer on the left both supported by Dan Meens and Adam Soloman but to be fair the away sides defence were also keeping a tight grip on the Sticker forwards that is until the hardworking Craig Coad spun around past his marker and was brought down in the box. Up stepped the equally hard working, top goal scorer Chris Kitson who made no mistake from the spot to score his seventeenth goal of the season. 1-0. The score remained the same until half time. The second half commenced with Sticker in the ascendancy and carefully pressing for that second killer goal but aware that Elburton were making a game of it by trying to make use of their strong no.8 who had made life difficult for the Sticker defence in the first part of the game but the back four kept their discipline and the evergreen Bradley Ralph in particular had an outstanding game and battled away and encouraged his team mates. Skipper Andrew Avery was also having a fine game and it was he who sent a superb crossfield pass to Ross Pinhammer that produced the second killer goal. As the ball sailed over the full backs head Ross controlled the ball beautifully and cut inside and from a fair way out unleashed a great drive that beat the Elburton keeper all ends up. A shot and goal that would have graced any top class game, well done Ross!! 2-0. Such was the tension in the game that nearly all the players went to congratulate Ross. Not long after Matt Lloyd replaced him and what a substitution this was as he made an immediate impact. Andrew Butler who had had a few unsuccessful shots at goal decided to play a little deeper and what an intelligent move this was as he opened up the Elburton defence with a superb through ball to Matt who's strong run put him into a great position as he went past the defence and as the keeper was advancing Matt went to his right to slot the ball into the waiting net. 3-0. Matt was now full of confidence and looked very strong on the ball and scored another goal when he received the ball on the left and with his team mates yelling for a quality cross, he duly delivered one but he slightly misdirected it and it sailed over the keepers outstretched arms into the far corner of the goal. 4-0. Game won. The disappointing part of what was a very competitive game was the referee who had a very good game was being moaned and groaned at by the Elburton players in the latter stages of the game. Every decision he made was being challenged and they were trying to intimidate him. We had a similar game with them last season and they need to cut this out and then maybe they might get more success. F/T. 4-0. Manager Phil Dingle was well pleased as it was a superb team performance and a clean sheet once again. Next week is the first round proper of the Cornwall Senior Cup away to Troon K.O. 1.30.pm. Team: R.Rosevear, D.Meens, A.Avery, B.Ralph, A.Soloman, L.Prince, J.Warne(P.Dingle), R.Pinhammer(M.Lloyd), A.Butler, C.Coad, C.Kitson. Man of the Match: Bradley Ralph: So strong and dominant in the back four!
Saturday 24th September: Mullion 0 Sticker 10 Mullion were no match for Sticker who started the game creating chance after chance for their attacking players. Chris Kitson started the rout scoring first firing in at the near post. 0-1. Five minutes later Craig Coad was put through by the excellent Ben Rosevear and Craig rounded the keeper to make it 0-2. Craig then made it three when he headed home a corner from Andrew Butler. 0-3. Ben Rosevear then headed home to make 0-4 and Chris Kitson made it 0-5 just before half time, the ball hitting both uprights before going into the net. In the second half Coady headed in another goal to make it 0-6. Ross Pinhammer then got into the act when he curled in a shot into the far corner. 0-7.Chris Kitson then added another to make it 0-8 and Craig Coad his fourth to make it 0-9 and then finally Kitsy ended the rout by scoring his fourth from the penalty spot.0-10. Andrew Butler had the freedom of Mullion to showcase his talent and keeper Rob Rosevear who was a spectator for most of the game did charge out on a couple of occasions to act as sweeper to ensure Sticker kept a clean sheet. With both strikers scoring four goals each confidence in the attacking area is very high and we look forward to the next round. It was a happy welcome back for Adam Soloman who had a very good afternoon and Matt Lloyd, this adds quality and competition in all areas of the squad. Credit must go to Mullion as they kept working hard and never gave up. Sticker now face Troon away in the next round on October the 8th. K.O. 1.30pm. But first face Elburton Villa at home next week in ECPL action. K.O. 2.30.pm Team: R.Rosevear, A.Soloman(P.Dingle), B.Ralph, A.Avery, D.Means, A.Butler, J.Warne, B.Rosevear, R.Pinhammer, C.KItson, C.Coad. Sub.M.Lloyd. Man of the Match: Andrew Butler!
Saturday 17th September: Sticker 3 Bere Alston 2 Sticker started this game brightly enough but found themselves two goals down after fifteen minutes when the lively Bere Alston forwards had two shots and scored both times. There was a very strong wind and it was causing both sides a great deal of difficulty in controlliing the ball at times. Sticker came roaring back and after a great through ball from Andrew Butler found Chris Kitson he cooly shot home past the Bere keeper. 1-2. After a couple of corners where the keeper was put under pressure from the Sticker players the ball ran loose on both occasions but Sticker were unable to capitalise and the half time score remained 1-2. The second half started and once again Sticker were on top and Ben Rosevear received the ball just outside the penalty area and skipped past two defenders before firing in a terrific drive to make it 2-2. Game on! Sticker were now dominating the game and had more corners from both sides of the park and on one occasion Bradley Ralph had climbed majestically to thump the ball with his head, alas it hit the underside of the bar and came down and then the keeper made a desperate one handed save from Chris Kitson as he headed the loose ball goalwards. Surely with all this pressure Sticker could find the winner and it came from another deep cross and found Ross Pinhammer running in and somehow he managed to connect with ball on his left foot which hit the ground with the ball looping over the keepers head. 3-2. Sticker had further chances where Jason Warne had two thunderous shots blocked by desperate defenders, Lewis Prince took a free kick that went narrowly wide, Kitsy tried a speculative lob that just went just over the bar and finally Andrew Butler had a cracking drive that hit the bar before going over. To give Bere Alston credit they never stopped and were very good on the break and could have got something from the game and in the end the Sticker defence were grateful of the final whistle. F/T. 3-2. Manager Phil Dingle will be pleased with three hard one points especially after having just the one substitute (himself!) Hopefully he will have a stronger squad in the weeks to come! Next week the team have a trip to Mullion in the preliminary round of the Senior Cup. Team: R.Rosevear, D.Means, B.Ralph, A.Avery, L.Prince, A.Butler, B.Rosevear, J.Warne, R.Pinhammer, C.Coad, C.Kiktson. Man of the Match: Once again Ben Rosevear who scored a great equalising goal and not only won nearly everything in midfield but helped the defence when they were stretched. He is blossoming into a superb player! Saturday 10th September: Launceston 1 Sticker 3 Sticker bounced back after their disappointing midweek ECPL defeat against Wadebridge with a terrific win against Launceston in the first round of the Rowett League cup. They started the game at a good pace and continued to dominate possession throughout. Chances were created by the flowing football Sticker were playing and with a better final ball could have been three up in first twenty minutes. With continued pressure and a goal mouth scramble a Launceston defender handled the ball on the line. Chris Kitson took the resultant penalty and scored! At last Sticker have managed to score from the spot at the fifth attempt. 0-1. Ten minutes Later the hard working Craig Coad scored from two yards to make it 0-2. The second half started and Andrew Butler continued to cause problems to the Clarets defence and in the centre midfield Ben Rosevear had an outstanding after recovering from a foot injury. Stickers third and killer goal came from a far post cross for Martin Giles to volley home. 0-3. In the last ten minutes Launceston were awarded a penalty when a Sticker player had won the ball cleanly but the referee blew his whistle saying the tackle was too strong!! This very strange decision seemed to bemuse all in the ground but the penalty was duly converted to make the final score 1-3 and Sticker proceed to the second round. A much better performance from the team and fully deserved the win. Next game is at home to Bere Alston. Team: R.Rosevear, D.Meens, A.Avery, B.Ralph, M.Giles, A.Butler(R.Pinhammer), B.Rosevear, J.Warne, L.Prince(P.Dingle), C.Coad, C.KItson. Man of the Match: Ben Rosevear Outstanding performance in midfield! Wednesday 7th September: Wadebridge 3 Sticker 1 Stickers super start to this season came down to earth with a massive bump in to-nights ECPL evening game under lights at Wadebridge. They gave away a needless penalty in the first minute to go one down and the home team followed this up within another in two minutes when the left winger cut in with a crisp shot when went in off both uprights. 2-0. If that wasn't bad enough Sticker went further behind after a terrible defensive mix up from a corner to concede yet another goal. 3-0. The injury to Ben Rosevear and Andrew Butler the previous Saturday who are key to Stickers form didn't help matters. They did have Neil Slateford playing but he struggled to make any impact and had Ross Pinhammer on the bench with Butts and the returning Matt Lloyd. Conceding three early goals was a major setback and the homeside made it difficult for Sticker to get back into the game, too many misplaced passes and balls bouncing off legs. There was one great chance to score late in the first half when from a free kick on the left was nodded on over the defence and the ball fell to the usual reliable Chris Kitson but he was unable to steer it into the net instead it went over the bar. H/T. 3-0. Phil Dingle who had started the game to-night because of the injury crisis brought the team out early for the second half to try and instill some discipline and encouragement to his team and to some extent it worked as the team worked to try and at least find the net and they had corner after corner but the big Wadebridge keeper had an outstanding game and thwarted every Sticker effort, that is until ten minutes from time Andrew Butler who came of for James Bragg sent in a low corner with pace and skipper Andrew Avery scored with a crisp volley. 3-1. Shortly after Sticker were awarded a penalty, up stepped Chris Kitson who drove it to his left and the keeper guessed right and dived full length to turn it around the post for yet another corner. Dan Meens who was really urging his team mates forward and adding some positive support started a really good move and finished it off with a cracking shot only to be denied by the inform keeper. What could have been a grandstand finish if the penalty had gone in was not to be and the referee finally ended the match. F/T. 3-1. It wouldn't have been so bad if the opposition had been superior but they were pretty mediocre but Sticker gave them a three goal start!! Never easy to come back from that. If the Sticker supporters went home happy after the Tavistock game they certainly went home unhappy after this result. Manager Phil will need to rally his team for this coming Saturdays league cup match away to Launceston who moved up to third place after beating St Dominick to-night. Team: R.Rosevear, P.Dingle(M.Lloyd), B.Ralph, A.Avery, D.Meens, N.Slateford, J.Warne, L.Prince(R.Pinhammer) , J.Bragg(A.Butler), C.Coad, C.KItson. Saturday 3rd.September: Tavistock 0 Sticker 4 Sticker continued their tremendous start to this season by convincingly beating Tavistock who were previously unbeaten. Slick Sticker started the game in confident form and soon took the lead when Andrew Butler raced down the right and fired in a great shot into the top corner. 0-1. Sticker were playing the ball round well and scored a second goal when Bobby Lee-Johns crossed for Chris Kitson to apply the finishing touch. 0-2. Unfortunately Andrew Butler had to leave the field because of a quad injury and was replaced by James Bragg who was soon involved in the action with his pace causing a real problem to the Tavistock defence. In the second half Sticker again dominated all areas of play and when the home side did threaten the impressive Dan Meens and Bradley Ralph were there to clear the danger. Goal no.3 came when Craig Coad beat three defenders and squared the ball back for Jason Warne to drill the ball into the back of the net and at last open his account for Sticker! 0-3. Chris Kitson then added no.4 when he cooly slotted home from a loose ball. 0-4. Ben Rosevear then left the field with a foot injury and was replaced by Manager Phil Dingle who moved to left back allowing Lewis Prince to switch into his favoured position in midfield. In the last ten minutes Tavistock worked hard to score but found Rob Rosevear in top form. F/T. 0-4. Another impressive result for Phil Dingle and his hard working team and the Sticker supporters left with big smiles on their faces. Team: R.Rosevear, D.Meens, B.Ralph, A.Avery, L.Prince, A.Butler(J.Bragg), B.Lee-Johns, B.Rosevear(P.Dingle), J.Warne, C.Coad, C.KItson. Man of the Match: Dan Meens So solid in defence! Tuesday 30th August: Lanreath 0 Sticker 6 Sticker travelled to Lanreath for this ECPL evening game full of confidence and started by putting the home sides defence on the back foot from the kick off. They got off the mark within four minutes from top scorer Chris Kitson and added a further from Craig Coad to lead 0-2. Sticker were making use of the wide pitch and but only for some desperate defending would have extended their lead. They did manage a further goal when Jason Warne sent in a delightful cross right onto Chris Kitson's head and he guided the ball wide of the keeper. H/T 0-3. The second half commenced and Sticker quickly settled and Chris Kitson got his second hat trick in successive games when Craig Coad was the provider after good work down the left wing he sent in a powerful cross to the far post where Kitsy rose powerfully to head the ball home. 0-4. Then came a period of play where Sticker had so much possession and dominated all areas of the pitch playing some neat passing, keep the ball football. The only thing that was lacking was more goals. They had numerous chances, Andrew Butler after an amazing run his well placed shot struck the inside of the post and rolled agonisingly along the line before going out of play, Ben Rosevear had a shot which just went wide, Jason Warne had a thunderous shot which was a shade high (It actually hit the power lines high up behind the goal, (keep going Warney it will come!) Lewis Prince who had another fine game at left back took a free kick from thirty yards out which just dipped over the bar and Kitsy could have scored another hat trick when he was through on goal with just the keeper to beat but was thwarted each time by the keeper making a block and another effort when he volleyed over from close in. They did finally add number five when Bobby Lee-Johns did beat the keeper when put through. But no fancy goal celebrations this time!! 0-5. They scored a final goal a few minutes from the end when Bradley Ralph rose majestically at the far post from a corner to head powerfully into the corner of the goal. F/T. 0-6. A much better footballing performance from the whole team and they got what their efforts deserved! Manager Phil Dingle was away working these evening leaving Skipper Andrew Avery and Bradley Ralph in charge and he will be especially pleased beating Lanreath who are always awkward to play against. Winning by a good margin without conceding a goal keeps the team firmly at the top of the table but they know they will be facing tougher opposition on Saturday away to Tavistock. Team: R.Rosevear, L.Prince, B.Ralph, A.Avery, D.Meens, J.Warne, B.Rosevear(J.Dingle), B.Lee-Johns(J.Bragg), C.Coad(J.French), C.Kitson. A.Butler. Man of the Match: Chris Kitson another hat trick from the prolific Sticker Striker! Saturday 27th August: Sticker 4 Bude Town 2 Sticker started this ECPL game on a sunny yet blustery Saturday afternoon hoping to keep the winning streak going and they didn't disappoint although not the best of football at times and somewhat scrappy but with Chris Kitson in a determined mood managed to get a two goal lead his second was a real never give up effort, after first having a shot blocked he continued with the ball and saw an opening and crashed the ball home. 2-0. Bude were coming forward and had a couple of useful quick forwards and the left winger had cut inside and Rob Rosevear saved brilliantly to his right and the follow up shot he also managed to parry away to preserve Stickers two goal lead. He had no chance however with another effort from Budes young 16 year old striker who sent in a stunning volley which Rob managed to get his hand to but couldn't stop the power of the shot. 2-1. Just before half time Chris Kitson was felled in the box and as the ball came loose Craig Coad buried the ball into the net only for the referee to disallow it as he had already blown up for a penalty. Up stepped Jason Warne to attempt to score his first goal for the club only for the Bude keeper guessed right to make a good save to a reasonably good spot kick. (Oh Warney!!??). In the second half Sticker continued where they left off and continued to press forward and Chris Kitson scored his third goal and his first hat trick of this season when after a goalmouth melee the ball ran free and Chris virtually on the goal line steered the ball home. 3-1. Bude were still looking lively up front but were trying the more direct approach to take advantage of the wind and Bradley Ralph and Andy Avery dealt with most of the threat. Bude did score another goal when after good work down the left side the ball was played inside and the strike was through a crowded area and left Rob in goal slightly unsighted. 3-2. This gave the home supporters some anxious moments but Sticker had two or three chances to increase their lead but both Andrew Butler and Jason Warne saw their shots go narrowly wide. They did get the chance of a further goal when Ben Rosevear went surging forward got into the penalty area and was unceremoniously upended to gain another penalty but this time Lewis Prince stepped up and smashed the ball with his usual venom but instead of his usual tactic of hitting it straight sent it to his left and the keeper guessed right yet again to make another good save. They did get the deciding goal when from another dangerous curling corner from Jason Warne found the head of 'Crouchy' Ralph who headed it goalwards and Craig Coad sprinted forward to head the ball into the net. 4-2. Josh Higman was replaced half way through the half when he was fouled and had to be replaced by Bobby Lee-Johns. It was a nasty tackle and the young referee didn't even speak to the player let alone caution him. The same can be said of the second penalty when Ben Rosevear was denied a goal scoring opportunity, again the defender wasn't even spoken to! It seems the standard of refereeing has dropped this season. F/T. 4-2 A scrappy game but in the end the right team won but Sticker will need to get their short passing game working more consistently as there were too many hopeful long balls pushed forward. I'm sure manager Phil Dingle will work on this in the coming games. Another awkward game on Tuesday away to Lanreath who got the better of Sticker in the latter stages of last season. Team: R.Rosevear, D.Meens(J.Bragg), B.Ralph, A.Avery, L.Prince, J.Warne, B.Rosevear(P.Dingle), A.Butler, J.Higman(B.Lee-Johns), C.Coad, C.Kitson. Man of Match Chris Kitson full of determination and running and he should take all the penalties!!! Tuesday 23rd August: Probus 2 Sticker 5 Sticker travelled to Probus for their second league game of the season and the pitch and the opposition were as expected, rough on both counts! But this new Sticker team played the better football and deservedly took the lead when after a good build up and a delicate through ball from Jason Warne found Chris Kitson who cleverly chipped and curled the ball over the keepers head and into the goal. 0-1. Another addition to the team is an old favourite of the Sticker supporters, Josh Higman who will be an asset to the club. There were a number, as usual, of very robust tackles coming from the Probus players and if the referee had dealt with them more severely at the beginning it may have stopped them, as it is they continued to fly into the tackle and it was lucky none of the Sticker players were seriously hurt. So it was a relief to get to half time with a slender lead. 0-1. The second half started with Probus showing why they can be a force in this league when they actually started to play some decent football and put the Sticker team under pressure and they finally equalised from a corner and then got a dubious penalty to actually take the lead. 2-1. The Sticker lads now showed some real character and started winning the ball both in the air and on the ground, Ben Rosevear was battling in the middle of the park and it was he he was subject to some awful tackles but he just got better the longer the game went on. Sticker did equalise when Lewis Prince who also had an outstanding game at left back (not his favoured position) managed to win the ball and while he was on his backside sent the ball hurtling to-wards the goal which totally confused the home sides keeper as it sailed over his head. 2-2. Now it was game on and Andrew Butler was again next to score to give Sticker the lead when after a great run down the right managed to steer the ball into the far corner.2-3. Sticker went further ahead when from a corner the ball was headed back by Josh Higman onto Chris Kitson's foot who volleyed it home. 2-4. Manager Phil Dingle then sent on some fresh legs and Bobby Lee-Johns with his first touch of the ball , after receiving a lovely pass from the tireless Chris Kitson, Bobby hit the ball first time to send it crashing past the keeper. 2-5. Bobby's goal celebration was a delight to see!! Probus were still pressing forward but the Sticker defence just played it nice and simple and ended the game worthy winners. 2-5. Manger Phil Dingle will be glad to have got that awkward game out of the way especially with a win and that ALL the team showed real character in turning the game around. This second win puts the team top of the league as Torpoint drew with Tavistock tonight. Hopefully they can continue this trend against Bude this coming Saturday at Burngullow Park. Team: R.Rosevear, L.Prince, B.Ralph, A.Avery, D.Meens, B.Rosevear, J.Warne, A.Butler(J.Bragg), C.Coad(R.Pinhammer), J.Higman(B.Lee-Johns) C.Kitson. Man of the Match: Ben Rosevear A Great Battling performance in midfield! Saturday 20th August: Sticker 6 Bodmin 1 Sticker started this new campaign after losing a number of players from last season who have left to join higher league clubs. So with a number of new players in the team it was no surprise that it took some time for them to settle down and start playing. The did however take the lead when after good movement down the left Lewis Prince cut inside and let fly with an absolute rocket which flew into the net. 1-0. They were facing a relatively new Bodmin side and they themselves were trying to get used to each others play. They had a couple of useful front runners and it was one of these that had cut inside Bobby Lee-Johns and was consequently tripped and the referee immediately pointed to the penalty spot which was duly converted. 1-1. The referee had a strange game and was constantly lecturing players after fouls so consequently the game didn't flow at times. Sticker were still pressing forward and after a corner from Andrew Butler the ball was knocked back in and new centre half Bradley Ralph headed in number two. 2-1. The second half started with Sticker completely dominating the game and shortly after were awarded a penalty which the usually reliable Chris Kitson managed to smack the crossbar and the ball sailed over, much to the away side keepers relief. They did however increase their lead when the hardworking Craig Coad added two quick goals to make it 4-1. Andrew Butler increased the lead still further with a rocket shot of his own from the tightest of angles.5-1. Ross Pinhammer who had come on in place of Bobby Lee-Johns looked very lively and added number six when he drifted wide on the right and picked his spot with a perfectly placed drive past the keeper. Final score. 6-1. Manager Phil Dingle will be well pleased with the result especially with the introduction of the new players notably Bradley Ralph an experienced campaigner and Jason Warne both putting in solid performances, Bradley scoring on his debut and Jason tidying up in midfield playing short passes and supporting the strikers and he was always a threat to the opposition. A good team performance from the rest of the players too. Probus next Tuesday which will no doubt be a tougher test! Team: R.Rosevear, B.Lee-Johns(R.Pinhammer), B.Ralph, A.Avery, D.Meens(J.Bragg), B.Rosevear(P.Dingle), J.Warne, L.Prince, A.Butler,C.Coad, C.KItson. Man of the Match: Andrew Butler always looked dangerous on the ball and rounded the game off with a well taken goal! |
