Saturday 28th January:

Sticker 1  Mount Charles  0

Sticker finally managed to overcome their lower division opponents in this second round of the Duchy league cup but the score line suggests it was a close encounter. In fact even though they only led by the single goal at half time scored by Andrew Avery  they had all the possession and it was only desperate defending and poor finishing that let them down! Such was their dominance home keeper Richard Osborne didn't have one shot to save. The second half started in much the same vein but Sticker were unable to wear the Mount Charles defence down even though they were making some good moves down either flank the final ball was missing, only a rasping volley from Andrew Avery that just grazed the top of the crossbar was the closest they came to adding to their tally. The longer the game went on however the away side were launching long balls down the middle hoping for their strikers to latch onto and this was mostly well taken care of by the Sticker defence except for one occasion where Ben Vian got beaten to the ball by the away sides striker and as he was homing in on goal Bens outstretched leg got the ball and the man which the referee deemed a foul. The resultant free kick proved fruitless for Mount Charles and Sticker saw the game out comfortably! F/T. 1-0.

Team: R.Osborne, K.Waters(G.Bone), B.Vian, R.Dawson, P.Dingle, J.Edens, A.Avery, M.Bennetts, M.Bullock, R.Pinhammer, M.Carter(K.Clarke).

Saturday 21st January:

St Breward 2 Sticker 0

Cold, wet and windy, a typical afternoon in St Breward and this fixture has always been a very tough place to go and get a result and so it proved.

For the first 10 minutes, Sticker started well and seemed to have adapted to the tough conditions well enough and it looked like the early impetus would bring reward when Rob Dawson fed the ball into Mark Bennetts who rolled his marker before being tugged to the floor and the referee without hesitation pointed to the spot, but then their home linesman had a flag up for a ridiculous offside excuse and the ref changed his decision much to Stickers anger. After that the home side began to get on top but rarely looking like troubling Stickers solid back line. Sticker had nothing much more to show for the first periods efforts although Mark Carter did get through to shoot over from a James Edens pass but the angle was tight and was a half chance at best. Half-time 0-0.

With Joe Egan and Andrew Marks carrying injuries, Gary Warren was forced to reshuffle at the break and brought on Martin Bullock and Jack Trays, Bullock pushed up front with Mark Carter dropping back into the midfield. The second half was much of the same, tough full blooded tackling from the home side with plenty of hussle preventing Sticker getting anything going. Bullock almost made a breakthrough when the keepers clearance fell to him 25 yards out but his snap shot curled agonisingly wide of the far post. The game entered into the final 10 minutes and seemingly heading for a bore draw when it all happened, a hopeful ball forward caught the defence out and their striker coolly lobbed the onrushing Richard Osborne for the vital goal, 0-1. Sticker almost equalised when a good low shot from Carter hit the outside of the post and then another very strong penalty appeal when Bullock was upended in the box went unseen by the referee. In stoppage time the home side completed their victory when their player got through and blasted in despite Osborne’s best efforts, 0-2.

A very disappointing day for Sticker and a huge blow to their promotion hopes, everyone will be feeling aggrieved at the loss but we all know we have to play better than this if we are to achieve success come the end of the season.

 R Osborne, K Waters, B Vian, R Dawson, J Edens, J Bragg, A Marks (M Bullock), J Egan (J Trays), A Keast, M Carter, M Bennetts (J Pooley).

N.B. This result has been reversed and the game awarded to Sticker 1-0 as St Breward played an unregistered player!

Saturday 14th January:

Queens Rangers 0 Sticker 2

A tough place to go and get a result, Sticker travelled the short journey to Indian Queens searching for a 7th straight league win to keep them on top of the pile, albeit having played more games than others but points on the board are always preferable over games in hand.

It was a cold windy afternoon and the pitch although in pretty good condition was still very heavy and with a significant slope made passing the ball very difficult for both teams. The game was a scrappy affair but it was the home side who took to the conditions better and Sticker were very much indebted to goalkeeper Richard Osborne who had a brilliant game. 3 or 4 times in the first half he made crucial saves to deny Queens. Sticker were very much second best in the first half but as well as Osborne the back 3 of Kris Waters, James Edens and Ben Vian did well to thwart the home sides numerous attacks. Sticker only looked threatening towards the end of the half when James Bragg managed to get down the right flank and ping some dangerous balls into the box and also from the dead ball deliveries from Bragg and Mark Bennetts.

Second half saw much improvement and Sticker started to gain more possession and put the home side under a bit of pressure, Joe Egan in midfield was winning the battles and starting attacks and Mark Carter began linking the play well in the final third. Still though Sticker failed to carve any real clear cut chances and Queens almost scored midway through the half when a dangerous free-kick was inadvertently headed by Carter and heading into the top corner before Osborne pulled off another excellent save. Looking for a change in fortune, Gary Warren introduced all 3 subs, and one of them made the impact the manager was hoping for. With only ten minutes or so remaining and game heading goalless, Martin Bullock latched onto a ball over the top and although the keeper blocked his effort he was able to squeeze in the follow up to score the vital breakthrough 1-0. And in injury time he made the game safe when Carter nodded into his path and Bullock just about skipped past the keepers challenge to roll the ball into the net for his and Stickers second 2-0.

A dogged performance full of effort and desire to win, 3 points and another victory without really playing that well, a great afternoon for Gary Warren and the team.

Team: R Osborne, K Waters, J Edens, B Vian, J Bragg, A Marks (M Bullock), J Egan, J Trays (J Pooley), A Keast, M Bennetts (K Clarke), M Carter.

MOM: Richard Osborne, a string of brilliant saves, a deserved clean sheet and a match winning performance.

Saturday  7th January:

Sticker 5 Lanreath 1

Sticker started this Duchy 2 game after a five week lay off and were out of the blocks and in front within the first minute when a ball from Kris Waters at right back was threaded right through the Lanreath defence which found Alex Keast galloping through on the left side who steadied himself before crashing in the ball past the oncoming keeper. 1-0. They went further ahead when after good work by Adam Marks down the left side firstly losing the ball then winning it back and pulling the ball back for Joe Egan to fire in no.2 into the corner of the net. The team were playing some good football and were opening up the away sides defence with ease mainly due to the powerful running of Matt Lloyd and it was he scored the next two goals made by some great forward play by the impressive Adam Marks who squared the ball across goal unselfishly For Matt to slide home. 3-0.  The fourth goal was all Matts doing when he ran powerfully down the left and lofted a superb shot over the keepers head from a tight angle. 4-0. Sticker were completely in command and when Lanreath did manage to venture forward they found the Sticker defence in resolute form. Especially Rob Dawson who was up against old war horse and ex Sticker favourite Ray Clarke and he didn't give him an inch. Sticker should have gone ahead further but for some wayward shooting especially from Matt Lloyd as he was trying to complete his hat-trick! H/T. 4-0.

The second half started and Lanreath immediately put Sticker on the back foot and so it remained for most of the second half and finally got their consolation goal when a crossfield pass found their striker in acres of space and he placed the ball wide of Richard Osborne in goal to make it 4-1.  Manger Gary Warren made a couple of substitutions bringing on Jack Trays and the returning Martin Bullock to the side to give him more options but the away side were still having the better of the play until the final ten minutes or so when Kynan Clarke came on  and with his first touch of the ball from a superb throw in by the quick thinking Martin Bullock managed to get into the penalty area where he was almost tripped over he managed to drag the ball away from the keeper and toe poke the ball and it went in-off a defenders legs to make 5-1. Sticker once again now started to play some neat football actually seeing their passes finding their teammates before the Referee blew his whistle for the end of the game. F/T. 5-1. Manager Gary Warren will be well pleased with the win especially the first half performance where they completely dominated all areas of play but will be less happy how the team allowed Lanreath to have so much possession in the second half.

Team: R.Osborne, K.Waters, J.Edens, R.Dawson, A.Keast(M.Bullock), A.Marks, J.Egan, M.Lloyd(J.Trays),J.Bragg, M.Bennetts(K.Clarke), M.Carter. Man of the Match: Rob Dawson didn't put a foot wrong all afternoon especially against old campaigner Ray Clarke!

Saturday 3rd December:

Sticker 3  Holywell/Cubert 0

Sticker started this Duchy 2 game against Holywell who had turned up with just ten players and completed dominated play but as what usually happens playing against a weakened side it was difficult to break the opposition down and so to-days game proved. Sticker were playing the ball around with confidence and playing to feet but when they got close to goal the passing was inaccurate so there weren't many real clean cut chances. They finally got the breakthrough when Mark Bennetts was fouled in the penalty area and the referee immediately pointed to the spot much to the chagrin of the away team especially the keeper who got booked for his protestations. Mark cooly slotted the penalty home to give Sticker the lead. 1-0. This was increased shortly after when James Bragg at last got wide and sent over a driven cross that missed everyone except the lurking Alex Keast who was homing in on goal from the left and he managed to score with slide rule accuracy in the tightest of angles to make it 2-0. Sticker had another great chance when Kristian Waters completely split the away sides defence with a superb cross field pass into the feet of Braggy who flicked it passed the onward rushing keeper only to see the ball go wide of the goal. H/T. 2-0.

Sticker stared the second half in much the same vein as the first half with complete dominance and did mange one further goal when from an in-swinging Braggy corner found the head of Joe Egan who glanced the ball beautifully into the net. 3-0. Sticker could and should have scored a hatful this half but for some super saves from the Holywell keeper and some poor finishing. F/T. 3-0. Manager Gary Warren will be disappointed with the team not capitalising on their complete dominance of the game and to add to their goal tally especially as this was their last game of 2011 and their next game wont be until 7th January 2012.

Team: R.Osborne, J.Edens(J.Trays), B.Vian, A.Cleaves(A.Marks), M.Tonkin(J.Pooley), K.Waters, J.Egan, J.Bragg, A.Keast, M.Bennetts, M.Carter

Saturday 26th November:

Lostwithiel 1 Sticker 5

Sticker  started with more or less the same set up and players that have turned things around in recent weeks, the only change being Matt Tonkin in the starting line-up in place of Joe Egan who was still carrying an injury from last week. With Lostwithiel missing a few players and Sticker in good form it was vital that the team start with a high tempo and look to take the game to the opposition. They did just that passing the ball around pretty well on a very poor playing surface and the midfield trio of James Edens, Kris Waters and Adam Marks controlling the midfield. However the final pass was letting them down a shade probably due to the state of the pitch and consequently few clear cut chances materialised. Midway through the half top marksman Mark Carter showed his class opening the scoring with a twenty yard drive that gave the home keeper no chance. 0-1. Minutes later Carts doubled Sticker's lead with a bit of magic, a super crossfield pass from James Bragg found Carts and it took two touches to score. Firstly flicking the ball over the defenders head with the outside of his boot, then secondly to drill another strong shot into the back of the net. 0-2. In between that though when the score was 0-1 Lostwithiel launched a counter attack and their striker looked like he a simple chance for just a tap-in at the back post but keeper Richard Osborne pulled off a brilliant smothering save at point blank range to deny him. Sticker failed to add to the score in this first half even though they were in control and had all the possession, somehow to the dismay of the team the home side grabbed a lifeline on the stroke of half time,  a tame free kick alluded everyone and a despairing Matt Tonkin effort failed to clear it off the line. H/T. 1-2.

Sticker came out determined in the second half without the fluidity of their first half play and the score remained the same. although Lostwithiel never really looked like troubling the solid defence of Cleave, Vian and Tonkin. At last a third goal came when Mark Bennetts latched onto Mark Carters flick who powered home to make the score 1-3. Joe Egan replaced Adam Marks and was involved in the fourth goal, a short corner from Bennetts to Bragg was whipped in with pace and swerve and Egan flicked the ball home via a deflection to put the game out of reach. 1-4. Sticker added a fifth when Carts was brought down in the area and he duly converted the resultant penalty to score his second hat-trick of the season. F/T. 1-5. Another good win  for the team who will want to continue with this form for next weeks game as it is the last one until the new year!

Team: R.Osborne, A.Cleaves, B.Vian, M.Tonkin, J.Bragg, J.Edens, K.Waters(K.Clarke), A.Marks(J.Egan), A.Keast,M.Bennetts(J.Pooley), M.Carter. Man of the Match: Without doubt Mark Carter, a splendid hat-trick!

Saturday 19th November:

St Stephen 0 Sticker 3

Although St Stephen are bottom of Duchy 2 at present their form and score lines have improved in recent weeks so to-days game was never going to be a stroll in the park and would require the right attitude and commitment from the Sticker players. Ben Vian was a welcome return from injury however Jack Trays and Rob Dawson were out with injuries.

Just like last week Sticker got into their stride early but were rocked when the in-form and last weeks match winner Joe Egan suffered a bad tackle and had to go off injured. This forced Manager Gary Warren to re-shuffle and he brought on Matt Tonkin to play sweeper with Kristian Waters moving into his favoured midfield role alongside James Edens and Adam Marks. Sticker played very well in the first half and moved the ball around intelligently and quickly and created a number of good chances without taking them. The strikers all had chances to open the scoring but it took a defender to show them how when Mark Bennetts swung over a corner and Adam Cleaves rose highest to plant a great header into the roof of the net for his first goal for the club. 0-1. Sticker then had an effort disallowed for offside but scored another when Mark Bennetts was released down the left by Ben Vian and the resultant cross was met on the volley by Adam Marks which was heading goalwards but it was deflected off Mark Carter and he like all good strikers is claiming the goal!!! 0-2.

More of the same in the second half was the request from manager Gary Warren but the boys found it harder to break down the home sides defence after the break and to their credit St Stephen's effort and spirit was fine all game as they threw themselves in front of shots and put in tackles. Richard Osborne in goal had a relatively quiet afternoon but did make crucial one on one block and then distributed the ball excellently. As Sticker pressed forward a good run and cross from Alex Keast was struck narrowly wide by Mark Carter and James Bragg was unlucky to see a great drive come back off the crossbar. Jordan Pooley and Kynan Clarke were introduced for the last twenty minutes and Jordan in particular did especially well showing good touches and making good use of the ball. Sticker's efforts were finally rewarded when a defensive clearance from  Ben Vian was headed into the path of James Bragg and he sprinted forward and rolled the ball into the net to make it 0-3.F/T. A good tidy performance and more points on the board. Next week the team travel to Lostwithiel for a very difficult match but hopefully with confidence growing week by week the team can pull off another win.

Team: R.Osborne, A.Cleave, B.Vian, K.Waters, J.Bragg, J.Edens, A Keast(K.Clarke), A,Marks, J.Egan(M.Tonkin), M.Carter(J.Pooley), M.Bennetts. Man of the Match: Adam Cleaves another solid performance in defence and a great goal!

Saturday 12th November:

Lanreath 2 Sticker 3

Having finally ended a run of three defeats last week Sticker travelled with more confidence to Lanreath a notoriously tough venue to get a result. Rob Dawson and Ben Vian were welcomed back to the squad especially Ben after receiving a nasty head injury a few weeks ago so Manager Gary Warren had excellent options open to him. After plenty of debate Gary picked the same eleven that played the previous week and with the same 3-5-2 formation. The game started well for Sticker with every player putting a great shift, working well to-gether and playing the ball around with confidence and accuracy. The midfield three of Matt Tonkin, Jack Trays and Joe Egan were dictating the game and were regularly getting the ball into the feet of the front two of Mark Carter and Mark Bennetts as well as getting James Bragg and Alex Keast away down the flanks. Braggy in particular was instrumental in the first half and it was his cross that the home keeper fumbled which allowed Mark Carter to bundle the ball home to open the scoring. 0-1.  Lanreath were unable to deal with Stickers formation and drive and Sticker doubled their lead when from another crossfield pass from Braggy was curled in by leading marksman Mark Carter. 0-2. After that the home side changed their formation to match Stickers but this only served to work against them as Sticker continued to open the home side up. They  were unable to show their dominance with more goals so the score remained at 0-2 at half time.

Lanreath came back into the game in the second half although never looked like beating Rich Osborne in goal and the defensive trio of James Edens, Adam Cleaves and Kristian Waters were dealing with the home sides response but no one had a say in Lanreaths first goal, an unstoppable 35 yard thunderbolt from their central defender that flew past Ossie in goal. 1-2. Such a goal changes games and so it proved and Stickers dominance had now gone and the goal breathed new life into Lanreath and much to Stickers dismay they drew level, a throw in found their no.10 in acres of space and he fired in another great strike to level the scores at 2-2. But to Stickers credit the responded positively and Alex Keast came close with 20 yard drive. Keast and Tonkin were replaced by Adam Marks and Rob Dawson with Carter moving into a central holding role to try and prevent the home side claiming all three points. Pushing Lanreath back Braggy fed the ball into Joe Egan who beat his marker turned to-wards goal and fired in a brilliant 25 yard drive for his first goal for the club to win the game for Sticker 2-3. Jordan Pooley came on in place of Bennets and did well for the last 10 or 20 minutes as it seemed the referee found an abundance of extra time from somewhere and the boys did well to see the game out for a well deserved 3 points as Sticker continued their recent revival.

Team: R.Osborne, J.Edens, A.Cleaves, K.Waters, J.Bragg, M.Tonkin(R.Dawson), J.Egan, J.Trays, A.Keast(A.Marks), M.Bennetts(J.Pooley), M.Carter. Man of the Match: James Bragg excellent down the right flank! But mentions also for Mark Carter who had a great game and Adam Cleaves and Kris Waters who were solid at the back.

Saturday 5th November:

Sticker 3  Lewdown 1

Sticker started this game on the back of three league defeats and determined to get back to winning form against Lewdown who they have previously never beaten! They certainly started on the front foot but due to some poor passing and poor control were unable to make the breakthrough until that is James Edens made a great crossfield pass to James Bragg who was just onside and raced through clear on goal and scored with a crisp shot. 1-0. The away team were making very few attacks and hardly made any threat on the Sticker goal. H/T. 1-0.

Lewdown came out for the second half with renewed energy and equalised in the first minute due to some slack defending by Sticker. 1-1. This gave the away team fresh heart and looked quite lively for ten minutes or so but Sticker gradually started to get their game on track and took the lead once again when Mark Carter was put through wide on the right and he ran on and beat the defender before firing in a terrific shot wide of the keeper into the far side of the goal. 2-1. From then on Sticker controlled the game but for a few sporadic attacks from the away team and would have possibly scored more but for some offside decisions. Manager Gary Warren made a couple of changes and brought on new boy Keiron Crowle in place of Mark Bennetts to add some more pace up front and he also replaced the hard working Jack Trays with Adam Marks and it was this combination that scored the final killer goal Marko was put through and he was racing in on goal with just the keeper to beat and unselfishly passed it to his left for Kieron to score a debut goal. F/T. 3-1. Manager Gary Warren will be relieved to have at last got a win against a very robust Lewdown side but still needs to see some quality play in the team and will hopefully have Ben Vian and Rob Dawson back next week to strengthen the squad.

Team: R.Osborne, J.Edens, A Cleaves, K.Waters, M.Tonkin, A.Keast, J.Bragg, J.Egan, M.Bennets(K.Crowle), J.Trays(A.Marks), M.carter. Man of the Match: Joe Egan worked his socks off in the middle of the park against some very robust players!

Saturday 29th October:

Premier Sixes 5  Sticker 2

After last weeks comprehensive victory in the Duchy league cup, Sticker reserves travelled to high flying Premier sixes attempting to turn around their  around their fortunes in the league. Manager Gary Warren alas wasn't able to name the same eleven due to the unavailability of Rob Dawson. So went with Kynan Clarke for his first start but the squad was bolstered by the return of Matt Tonkin from illness.

The first twenty minutes was a scrappy affair with neither team able to maintain decent possession and take control so it was fitting  that the opening goal came from a defensive mix-up. The home sides keeper launched a big kick and with Stickers defence showing no conviction and seemingly waiting for each other to respond, sixes no. 11 sprinted through and rounded Richard Osborne to score the opening goal. 1-0. Sticker though responded well with  Mark Carter linking the play excellently and James Bragg starting to get away down the right flank. Deservedly but rather fortunately Sticker grabbed the equaliser, the referee awarding a penalty for a clumsy challenge on Alex Keast, Mark Carter shot straight down the middle and into the net. 1-1. This rallied Sticker and up to half time looked the more likely to go ahead, a stinging drive from James Bragg was palmed away and Adam Marks shot narrowly wide from 25 yards. H/T. 1-1.

No one could have predicted what happened in the second half, firstly Sticker suffered a big blow when Carter couldn't continue after receiving a nasty challenge at the end of the first half  and literally seconds after the enforced change Sixes grabbed the lead courtesy of  some slack marking and a big deflection. 2-1. Sixes were now sensing  Stickers frailties and for the next 25 minutes opened up Sticker with worrying ease, they were able to add three more goals in similar fashion with runners getting through to Osborne unopposed and finishing clinically. 5-1. With the game out of site the away boys did show some fighting spirit in the last 15 minutes and put the home side under sustained pressure, Alex Keast just off target with a fierce shot and James Bragg slipping a shot under the keeper only to see it bounce back off a post. Sticker did however score a consolation goal for all their late efforts when a volley from Matt Tonkin was controlled and neatly finished my Adam Marks for his first goal for the team. F/T. 5-2. A very disappointing game and a third straight league defeat leaves Sticker well off the pace now in Duchy 2. A home game against Lewdown next week and one way or another the reserves need to turn their fortunes  around and quickly.

Team: R.Osborne,J.Edens, A.Marks, A.Cleave, K.Clarke(J.Pooley), J.Bragg, K.Waters, A.Keast, J.Trays, M.Carter(M.Tonkin), J.Egan

Saturday 22nd October:

Sticker 6 Wadebridge 1

Sticker took a welcome break from League football and had a chance to turn round their recent poor form when they entertained Wadebridge in the Duchy League Cup. With six players missing through injury, holiday, illness and retirement manager Gary Warren welcomed back Mark Carter, Adam Cleaves and Jordan Pooley who were all missing from the defeat the previous week. Adam Marks and Rob Dawson moved to fill the full back positions with Adam Cleave and James Edens in the centre of defence. Olly Geeves helping out in goal for skipper Richard Osborne who was away on family business. The familiar looking midfield supported the attacking duo of Joe Egan and Mark Carter. Sticker were quick out of the blocks and started fast, something that has been missing of late. Wingers Alex Keast and James Bragg were looking dangerous as was Joe Egan who was leading the front line well. It wasn't long before Sticker took the lead when a good move down the left ended in a Keasty cross being turned in at the far post by the by the stretching Carter. 1-0. Sticker continued to pile on the pressure and a series of good saves by the away sides keeper from Egan kept the score the same until a Bragg corner wasn't cleared and it fell to the waiting Kristian Walters who slammed in an unstoppable volley from the edge of the penalty area. 2-0. Sticker increased their lead following a defensive mix-up allowed Keasty to score into an empty net from outside the box. 3-0. Sticker finished the half in style when another pull back from Braggy being hammered into the roof of the net by Carts. H/T.4-0.  The second half started with Manager Gary Warren having to make a forced change with the injured Jack Trays having to be replaced by  Kynan Clarke. Wadebridge  started the better side and immediately put Sticker under pressure and aided by a slight breeze they pulled a goal back when the back four failed to react when the referee overruled the linesman's offside decision  which allowed the awy sides striker to beat the exposed Geeves in goal. 4-1.  On Came Jordan Pooley in place of Kristian Waters  and after a scrappy period of football restored their four goal advantage after another Braggy set piece wasn't cleard and after a goal mouth scramble Jordan Pooley stuck his foot home to stab the ball home for his first goal for Sticker. 5-1. With the cup tie now decided Sticker added a sixth when yet another Braggy cross was met at the far post with a powrful header from the experienced Carter for his Hat trick. F/T. 6-1

This was a much better performance from Sticker albeit against poor opposition but with some key players still to return they will only add to the squad. With several hard games coming up they look to put the previous poor results behind them and get their title challenge back on track especially with local rivals Biscovey now topping the league unbeaten so far this season.

Team: O.Geeves, J.Edens, A.Cleaves, K.Waters(J.Pooley), R.Dawson, A.Marks, J.Trays(K.Clarke), J.Bragg, M.Carter, J.Egan, A.Keast. Man of the Match: Mark Carter proved a point after the controversial decision to leave him out of the most important game of the season against Pensilva!!

Saturday 8th October:

Sticker 0 Pensilva 1

In this top of the table clash Manager Gary Warren was hoping his team could bounce back from the previous weeks disappointing Junior Cup defeat but alas it was not to be. Pensilva came straight out of the blocks and looked fitter, faster and keener to try and win this game. The only goal of the game came when after a wasted free kick for Sticker the ball was sent up the left flank  and then an awkward cross was not cleared by the defence and Pensilva striker managed to get his foot to the ball and tuck it into the corner. 0-1. The encouragement the Pensilva players gave each other was pleasing to see and they continued to attack Sticker at will but with keeper Richard Osborne in goal almost acting like a sweeper he alone was the reason the score remained the same.

The second half Sticker showed more determination and penned in the away side for long periods but there was no one player able to show that bit of magic to open up the Pensilva defence who still looked dangerous on the break. What was disheartening was there was no deft through ball for the front men to run onto and not one meaningful shot on goal to test the away sides keeper throughout the whole of the match. F/T. 0-1. Manager Gary Warren will need to try and instill some of the character and enthusiasm Pensilva showed to-day and to improve on their fitness as they were always second best in the first half of the game.

Team: R.Osborne, J.Eden(R.Dawson), B.Vian, M.Tonkin, A.Keast, K.Waters, A,Marks(J.Bragg), J.Trays, G.Bone, M.Bullock(J.Pooley), M.Bennetts

Saturday 1st October:

Torpoint Comrades 2  Sticker 1

Stickers junior cup campaign ended at the first hurdle for the third consecutive year, this time in an embarrassing performance on a hot and sunny October afternoon to division 5 team Torpoint Comrades. Hampered by the absence on Manager Gary Warren, Alex Keast, Jack Trays and the influential centre half Kristian Waters. Assistant Manager Mark Carter and temporary first team coach Steve Burt had limited options but began with a 4-4-2 formation with Adam Cleave making his debut alongside Ben Vian at the centre of the Sticker defence. In the early stages Sticker looked far more precise and accurate than the home side who failed to settle on the ball. James Bragg and Martin Bullock in particular were having much joy down both flanks, the latter unfortunate to see a presentable penalty chance denied by a very vocal and at times fussy referee.  As if in frustration Stickers lack of an opening goal almost prompted a reliance on hopeful long balls aimed at the head of Mark Carter who was being well marshalled by a physically imposing Torpoint defence. This limited the options and the predictability of Stickers became painfully obvious, as did the alarming way in which Sticker lost confidence. This served only as an initiative to a Torpoint side that were beginning to exert some pressure on the visitors defence mainly on the counter attack, Richard Osborne in goal having to be alert on more than one occasion.

The complacency shown by Sticker was duly punished on the half hour, Matt Tonkin left exposed by Martin Bullocks sorties upfield was beaten by the right midfielder whose cross was turned in a the near post past a powerless  Osborne. 1-0. Sticker were fortunate not to concede further, helped only by a fine goalkeeping performance by Osborne.

A half time reality check from Steve Burt didn't have the desired affect. Sticker's malaise continued and when Torpoint inevitably scored again just short of the hour mark the shocked away side looked dead and buried. Only more top drawer work from keeper Osbourne and the frame of the goal denied the score line taking on a more embarrassing look. 2-0. Steve Burt decided on a change of formation going to a 3-5-2 formation and whilst this gave Sticker more possession it didn't have the desired effect on creating chances as they were still playing the long ball game. Sticker however did give themselves a lifeline when a lofted pass from Bullock found James Bragg who delightfully controlled the ball and cut inside and fired home past the helpless keeper. 2-1.  Sticker had twenty minutes to rescue their cup campaign and the goal seemed to invigorate the whole side as they played with more urgency than they had displayed at any point in the game. Despite this, the desperate lack of a quality final ball led to few chances being created. The referee finally blew for the end of the game. Richard Osbourne excluded, the Sticker players left the field knowing they had let themselves and the management team down. The attitudes of individuals as well as the worrying use of the long ball will need to be addressed before next Saturdays crunch league game at home to Pensilva.

Team: R.Osborne, J.Edens, A.Cleaves, B.Vian, M.Tonkin, J.Bragg, G.Bone, A.Marks, M.Bullock, M.Bennetts(J.Pooley) M.Carter. Man of the Match: Richard Osborne Made  some superb saves to keep the score line respectable!

Biscovey 0 Sticker Res. 0

With both sides defending unbeaten records in Duchy 2 so far this season the clash of last seasons promoted top two was always going to be a closely contested affair. Sticker without four of the squad from the previous week welcomed back Gary Bone and James Bragg as manger Gary Warren once again had to shuffle his pack. The visitors would also be pleased to see last seasons tormentor in chief Frank McAvoy on the Biscovey subs. bench. Inclement weather in the Par area on Friday night and Saturday morning meant that a bobbly pitch had now become even more awkward especially for goalkeepers. Sticker began the first half well, Edens and Bragg both prominent down the right side with Mark Carter again the target of Stickers main attacking options. It was evident from an early stage that the hosts would go long early, aiming for the aerial threat of Mooney with Woodcock looking to pick up the pieces. Stickers two centre half's Vian and Waters were constantly alert and vigilant to this threat. Stickers first sight on goal came after fifteen minutes when a delightful ball from Edens set up last weeks hat trick hero Mark Bennetts with only the advancing keeper to beat alas his shot rolled agonisingly past the post.  Next Jack Trays managed to fashion a yard of space in the congested midfield area and got a shot away only to see it canon back off the crossbar with home keeper Quantick well beaten. These were the only meaningful chances in a disjointed first half, although Stickers keeper Osborne was twice needed to come off his line to collect dangerous through balls from a home side seemingly reliant on route one football. H/T.0-0.

The second half began in the same manner, although Mooney was becoming more prominent for the home side, severely testing the defensive qualities of the unflappable Vian. Sticker were struggling to create any chances with both Bragg and Bullock starved of any real service and Bennetts becoming increasingly isolated up front. It was also apparent that Sticker reverting to the long ball tactic was not working, the central midfield pair of Trays and Bone were being by-passed far too often as the home side began to attack with more positive intent.

The introduction of McAvoy and Jackson on the hour provided the impetus that would enable the home side to finish the stronger. McAvoy on the right linking with Mooney before firing wide past the post as Sticker struggled to contain the home side. Twice Sticker had to clear from under their own bar, the first after Osborne had punched the ball onto a home attacker and the ball ricocheted goalwards and then again after a goalmouth scramble, the Sticker back four again excellent in repelling everything that was thrown their way. Sticker very nearly created a late opportunity following Carters strong run down the right side but his his inviting centre was not capitalised by Bennetts who had not anticipated the flashing cross. There was late drama as Biscovey almost forced a winner, a cross from the right was headed onto the post by Woodcock, but the defence held firm and the ref blew for full time. F/T. 0-0.

Sticker will undoubtedly be the happier of the two sides, as this type of battling display against close rivals are invariably what decides the league, they now look forward to entertaining St Breward at Burngullow Park next Saturday.

Team: R.Osborne, J.Eden, B.Vian, K.Waters, M.Tonkin, J.Bragg, J.Trays, G.Bone, M.Bullock(J.Pooley), M.Bennetts(L.Damerall), M.Carter. Man of the Match: Shared between Ben Vian  and Kristian Waters An imperious display from the experienced defenders!

Saturday 10th September:

 Sticker 5 Queens Rangers 1

Sticker started this Duchy 2 game slowly allowing the away side to create a couple of chances but fortunately keeper Richard Osborne was alert to the danger. Sticker gradually managed to find their form and started creating some good football both Martin Bullock and and Adam Marks shooting narrowly just over the bar. They did however finally take the lead when Matt Tonkin sent over a curling cross from the left onto the penalty spot fortunately it went over the heads of the defence and Mark Carters and found Martin Bullock running in from the blind side to score a super goal with his head. 1-0.  Queens Rangers came storming back and equalised after the Sticker keeper had made a good block but the  away sides striker followed up to score. 1-1. Sticker pressed forward with more determination and after another dangerous cross old Sticker favourite Paul Crocker managed to blast the ball past his own keeper. 2-1. He had almost scored an own from the other side when he headed another cross away for a corner which was only inches away from goal. Sticker were making good use of the windy conditions and sending in numerous dangerous crosses but the returning from vacation Mark Carter managed to head the ball over. So the score remained the same up to half time but could have been a lot more in Stickers favour. H/T. 2-1.

The second half started and Sticker kept control at the back with James Edens, Ben Vian, Matt Tonkin and Kristian Waters all having influential games especially Tonks who was keeping a very cool head and playing some neat football on the left side and not allowing the away side any real opportunity to find  a way through. So much so they ran out of ideas and it was Sticker who were totally dominant and added three more goals to kill the game off. Mark Bennetts scoring a hat trick. Firstly closing in on goal he kicked the ball straight at the keeper at the near post and he made  a hash of it and the ball squirmed through his hands and legs. 3-1. The next goal after Mark Carter was brought down and Benzo scored from the resulting penalty. 4-1. The final goal came when Martin Bullock who was having a real positive effect with the Sticker attack was also brought down, up stepped Benzo for another penalty but this time the away sides keeper guessed right and pushed the shot away but Benzo followed up to retrieve the ball and there was a bit of a scramble and he finally got the chance to smash the ball into net. 5-1. With fifteen minutes or so left in the game Sticker just played the ball around and saw the game out. F/T. 5-1.

Manger Gary Warren will be pleased with this result and the positive way the team played especially in the blowy conditions and the amount of chances they created. There is a good spirit within the team and with the introduction of a couple of new additions and the added benefit of some of the under eighteen players they have made a positive start to life in Duchy 2. They have a tough match away to arch rivals Biscovey next week which will be a tough test.

Team: R.Osborne, B.Vian(S.Burchell), J.Edens, K.Waters, M.Tonkin, A.Marks, M.Bullock, J.Trays(K.Clarke), M.Bennetts, M.Carter, A.Keast(J.Pooley). Man of the Match: Matt Tonkin Very Cool at the back and influential!

Saturday 27th August:

Gerrans & St Mawes 2  Sticker 4

Sticker began their season in Duchy division 2 with the traditional clash with Gerrans as their opening game. Upon arrival at Lanwartha Park it was obvious that despite the good condition of the pitch both the slope and the wind were going to play a prominent part in the proceedings. Also playing a key factor was the new look Sticker squad after losing three players of last years team to the first team squad (four new players in the starting eleven). A mixture of youth and experience but deprived of last seasons top scorer Mark Carter who was completing his high altitude training somewhere warm and sunny!

New team captain Richard Osbourne won the toss and elected to kick downhill with the wind in the first half. A decision that seemed to be paying early dividends as Sticker had most of the possession but without creating any real clear cut chance in the early exchanges, Jack Trays in the centre and Alex Keast on the left proving prominent for the visitors. It was somewhat against the run of play that the home side took the lead, a slick counter attack down the left led to the home striker cutting inside Matt Tonkin and firing past an exposed Richard Osbourne in goal to make it 1-0. The lead was to last just three minutes as Sticker mounted a slick movement themselves down the left involving Keast, Tonkin and Bennets feeding Kristian Waters who's fierce shot the keeper could only parry right into the path of Martin Bullock who tapped in the equaliser. 1-1.  Sticker were now in the ascendancy and almost took the lead when Paul Reed impressive on his league debut cut in from the right wing and was only denied a goal by the outside of the near post. A goal seemed inevitable and so it proved with tem minutes before half time Bullocks whipped free kick was glanced on by the balding Ben Vian past the helpless home keeper to give Sticker a well deserved lead. 1-2. Sticker had further chances to increase their lead but due to some wasteful finishing and poor deliveries in the final third meant the teams went in at half time separated by the lone goal.

After some tactical tinkering Sticker came out in the second in a determined mood and dominated possession, Reed became much more prominent in a central role  and the two full backs Edens and Tonkin were much more involved in an attacking sense. This domination was rewarded when Bullock released Keast to slot bravely past the onrushing keeper to make it 1-3.  Sticker then lost the influential Kristian Waters who had a dead leg and was replaced by another debutant Adam Marks who's first involvement was a twenty yard strike that flashed narrowly  wide of the beaten keepers far post. Sticker made further changes, Jordan Pooley and another debutant Kynan Clarke making impressive contributions when introduced midway through the half. Sticker would go on to further dominate the game with Bullocks twenty yard curler clattering the crossbar and Reed going close for the debut goal that had eluded him so far. Sticker finally added a deserved fourth goal when a quick counter attack down the left instigated by Osbourne found Bullock who brilliantly beat the last man and slotted home left footed past the home keeper. 1-4.  Gerrans then managed a consolation goal following a scrappy exchange in the Sticker area to make it 2-4. And a fightback briefly threatened when Ed Rimmers thirty five yard screamer cannoned off Osbourne's  crossbar. This was the last meaningful action of a highly entertaining and highly satisfying afternoon for manager Gary Warren and his team!

Team:4-4-2: R.Osbourne, M.Tonkin(K.Clarke), J.Eden, B.Vian, J.French, A.Keast, P.Reed, K.Waters(A.Marks), J.Trays, M.Bennetts(J.Pooley), M.Bullock. Man of the Match: Jack Trays worked tirelessly all afternoon and wasn't afraid to get stuck in  against a very physical midfield.

Sticker now enjoy a week off before their home campaign begins against Queens Rangers on the 10th Serptember.

Monday 25th July:

Sticker Reserves 2 Sticker U18s 1

The game started with  Sticker Reserves playing the newly formed Sticker U18s team and with one slightly overaged player as a guest!! The U18s playing plenty of energy and playing the ball to feet with confidence. The reserves were to be honest struggling to keep pace as whenever they did get the ball the youngsters were quicker to the ball and it was no surprise when the U18s took the lead when from a superb through ball from Sam Walker, Connor Mewton controlled the ball and went round keeper Mark Carter with ease and tapped the ball into the empty net!! 0-1. Shortly after they could have doubled their lead when Josh Cutter was through on goal but decided to try and control the ball instead of trying a shot and the ball was cleared away.

The second half started and saw the reserves gaining more of the ball and pushing forward all the time and after a long cross from the right from James Bragg found Alex Keast steaming in who volleyed in the equaliser high into the net. 1-1. The U18s were still gamely battling for every ball but their short passing game which was so effective in the first half was missing and they were playing long balls much like the reserve team who did finally clinch the game with a well taken steady finish from Matt Tonkin. F.T. 2-1.

The U18 team must take a lot of credit for making such a game of their first match and were by the better team in the first half with first team player Ben Rosevear dominant. But were caught out of position for the final winning goal!
