First Team Match Reports 2007-08 Sticker 5, Liskeard Athletic reserves 2 STICKER striker Chris Kitson continued where he left off last season as he bagged a 31 minute hat-trick to fire Sticker into a 5-2 victory over Liskeard Athletic reserves. Dominating the first period, the home side took the lead after just four minutes when the impressive Kristian Waters played a neat one-two with Scott Ansell before firing into the corner of the net from 10 yards out. Impressing again the lead was doubled on 13 minutes when Josh Higman outpaced his marker down the flank and pulled the ball back for Chris Kitson to fire into the back for his first goal of the day. Ten minutes later Kitson doubled his tally for the afternoon as the clearance from the goalkeeper hit Kitson on the back and ended up in the back of the net. It was three for Kitson on 31 minutes after a direct ball from skipper Phil Dingle picked out Kitson and after taking the ball out wide on the left he managed to find the bottom right hand corner of the net to push his side into a four goal lead. Further chances came and went for Sticker but Josh Higman and Luke Patton both shot wide of goal. After the break, Liskeard upped their game and earnt their reward on 67 minutes when Ian Kenny put the ball home at the second attempt after Sticker had failed to clear their lines. But, the four-goal buffer was restored for the home side on 83 minutes when Steve Webb glided past a couple of challenges before driving the ball into the bottom right hand corner of the net. Just a minute later however, Liskeard pulled another goal back when the speedy Michael Ebanks-Blake broke free of his marker and shot past 16 year old goalkeeper Rob Rosevear, who impressed throughout. Sticker manager Glyn Rowett told the Voice: “I am delighted with the result, we played some really good football, especially in the first half, when we dominated the game. It was nice to get off to a winning start.” On Saturday, Sticker are at home to Launceston, kick-off at Burngullow Park will be at 2.30pm. Godolphin 2 Sticker 1 THERE was heartache for Sticker as goal in the dying seconds of the game gave Godolphin a 2-1 victory, to inflict a first defeat of the season on Sticker. The home side may feel that they did enough in the first half to seal the points, but, a rigid Sticker back-line inspired by 16-year-old goalkeeper Rob Rosevear held out until 16 minutes from time. The hosts started brightly although Sticker did have a couple of early chances, Godolphin certainly felt aggrieved that they could not turn their dominant possession into goals. Lee Paxton brought the best out of Rosevear, while Matt Halletts appeared to have left his shooting boots at home, while Phil Lowry, who was influential throughout clipped the top of the crossbar after being allowed time to shoot. After all of the possession from the first half, the G were stunned in the opening minute of the second half when the hard-working Sticker side opened the scoring. 18-year-old winger Josh Higman's in-direct free-kick was dropped into the back of the net by the Godolphin goalkeeper although too the surprise of all watching the game, referee Steve Tootle took 30 seconds to allow the goal to stand. The goal seemed to settle Sticker into their stride and they started to control the battle although the G continued to push forward to find a way back into the game. With Lowry still creating chances Godolphin's endeavor finally paid off when they grabbed the leveller in the 74th minute. When Lowry, slotted home the penalty after Paxton had been fouled by Dave Hooper, who felt that he had won the ball. With time running out it appeared that the Sticker had held out for a credible point but substitute Dave Moore broke free at the far post and headed a long-throw into the back of the net to send the G army into raptures. Sticker 1, Launceston 3 AN OUT-OF sorts Sticker side suffered their second defeat in the week as they were defeated 3-1 at home to a hard-working Launceston side, at Burngullow Park. The hosts did start quite brightly and could have taken the lead inside three minutes but Chris Kitson’s header from Josh Higman’s cross ended just wide of the post. The away side struck after 15 minutes when Andrew House broke free of his marker before coolly slotting pat Rob Rosevear from just inside the box. With Dan Rogers and Sam Scott excelling themselves in the midfield for Launceston, Sticker nearly got a leveller before the break, but, Kitson saw his effort cleared of the line. The visitors somewhat sealed the win in the opening 12 minutes in of the second half. Firstly, on 51 minutes, Sam Scott slotted in the far corner of the net from the edge of the box, before James Turner latched on to a Alan Yendall long ball to make it three on 57 minutes. This saw the home side go for broke and after failing to carve out few real clear cut chances, they grabbed a last minute conciliation goal when Kitson rammed home from 12 yards out after Josh Higman had been fouled by Yendall. After the game Sticker manager Glyn Rowett told the Voice: “We simply didn’t turn up. Some of the players need to take a good hard look at themselves before our next game. “I was extremely disappointed after such a good performance in the week and hopefully we can find the winning formula again during the week.” Tonight Sticker host Probus, before kicking off the Rowett Cup campaign with a game at home to St Stephen, on Saturday, kick offs will be at 6.30pm and 2.30pm respectively. |
