Sunday August 13 2006

Sticker 7-0 Saltash United Reserves

CHRIS Kitson continued where he left off last season as he hit FIVE as Sticker stunned league champions Saltash with a 7-0 hammering.

With the match having been re-arranged because of a wedding of a Saltash player, the long early morning journey seemed to have affected the young Ashes, and just 44 SECONDS into the game, Josh Higman's corner was turned home by the impressive Kitson.

Within four minutes, it was two as some good harrying from Kitson and Ross Pinhammer allowed for the latter to win the ball off the goalkeeper and send his left footed shot into the back of the net.

Sticker carried on dominating the game, although a few holes did occasionally occur in the home side's back-line and allowed for the away side to test goalkeeper Chris Dowrick, but the visitors could only fire blanks, when it really mattered.

The Burngullow based outfit made it three with ten minutes of the second half remaining, when space opened up for Gary Warren who's 35 yards shot was parried into the net by the young Saltash keeper.

Six minutes later it could have been four, but Kristian Waters header from another Higman corner came back off the crossbar.

The hosts didn't have to wait to long to grab the fourth, and it came just 49 SECONDS into the second half when Pinhammer picked out his striker partner Kitson who slid the ball under the oncoming keeper.

Five minutes later, it was five when the impressive Pinhammer got to the by-line and squared for Kitson who in turn hammered home his hat-trick.

It was six in the 66th minute, when Pinhammer again showed his spirit as he chased what seemed to be a lost cause, before squaring for his striker partner Kitson to place the ball in the corner of the net.

Sticker sealed the rout two minutes later when Scott Ansell, who again showed his worth, picked out quick winger Josh Higman who got the by-line before crossing to Kitson to grab his fifth goal of the game.

Sticker 5-2 Torpoint Athletic Reserves

Report to follow

Tuesday August 22 2006

Sticker 3-1 Godolphin

STICKER continued their fine start to the season as they saw off the challenge of highly-rated Newquay based outfit Godolphin winning 3-1.

The home side were in buoyant mood after their 5-2 win over Torpoint, and within the opening ten minutes the hosts were 1-0 up when Chris Kitson fired home a Josh Higman corner.

The Burngullow based outfit, were under the cosh for the majority of the rest of the half, but their stern defensive unit of goalkeeper Chris Dowrick and defenders Daniel Meens, Derek Thompson and Phil Dingle held strong to see the home side one goal to the good at the break.

With Dave Kitson excelling in the midfield Sticker continued to hold strong in the second half and after "G" had a player sent off the hosts started to dominate the game, and Scott Ansell scored a "cracker" of a goal to double the advantage, early in the second half.

With the away side growing in frustration, the home side sealed the win when quick winger Josh Higman cut infield and slotted under the goalkeeper to score his second goal in as many games.

Godolphin did snatch a late conciliation goal, as a lack of concentration was blamed by Sticker assistant manager Steve Burt.

Burt said: "The players should be proud, we played a good side off the park, we were strong enough, commitment enough to hold of their challenge.

"After the game our football that we played was complimented by their manager, and that is always a good sign."

Tuesday August 26 2006

Sticker 1-2 Probus

A GOAL deep into stoppage time helped Probus maintain their unbeaten start to the new season and stay top of the East Cornwall Premier League, as they defeated second placed Sticker 2-1.

Steve Way was the man who grabbed the winner in the sixth minute of injury time, to leave the home side with a large lump in the back of their throats.

The hosts started brightly in the eagerly anticipated game, however, after seeing Ross Pinhammer shot just wide, the away side went up the other end - when holding off the challenge of Daniel Meens, St Austell hot-shot Scott Hill slotted home to give the away side a sixth minute lead.

Dan Riley, in the Probus goal was in inspired form and he tipped both Chris Kitson and Karl Cocks' efforts over the bar, before producing a super save from the impressive Scott Ansell' from 20-yards out.

The excitement from the first half, continued after the restart and the impressive Hill went close to doubling his tally, but forced a good save from Chris Dowrick.

Glyn Rowett's Sticker continued to take the game to the visitors and after having a hand ball shout turned down, Steve Webb saw Riley again pull out another top draw stop.

The second half saw Bodmin and Cornwall's goalkeeper Jason Chapman made an outfield appearance for the visitors, and it was the man who he was marking that set up the equaliser after 72 minutes when Steve Webb skipped past Chapman and Adrian Partridge's challenge before his inch-perfect cross picked out Chris Kitson, who found the top corner and notch his ninth goal of the season.

The game which has been touted by Sticker manager Glyn Rowett as a "great spectacle for the East Cornwall Premier league," saw the winning goal came deep into injury time when Partridge's long throw found gangly hit-man Steve Floyd-Norris who's flick-on found its way to Way who tapped home, and bring delight to Tony Paddock and his team.

Rowett said: "Neither team deserved to loose the game, and a draw would have been a fair result.

"For me, the difference between the two teams was St Austell striker Scott Hill."

Saturday September 2 2006

Sticker 3-1 St Blazey Reserves

STICKER striking sensation Chris Kitson, the striker who has got a machine gun style shot jammed his barrel when faced with the chance of scoring his 100th goal for the East Cornwall Premier League club.

The hit-man who has gunned down more clubs than Rambo himself, had a 52nd minute penalty come back off the post, before sealing the victory for the hosts twenty minutes later when firing past keeper Brett Allen from 12 yards out, to take his tally to 99 goals in just 90 games for the Burngullow based outfit.

The visitors made an impressive start to this Rowett Insurance League Cup clash and after Karl Cocks (Sticker) and Will Tinsley (St Blazey) had exchanged chances at either end, Lee Rickard found keeper Chris Dowrick in top form as he saved from point blank range, after 27 minutes.

The home side settled in and took the lead in the 33rd minute, when Phil Dingle's corner was played back into the box by Kristian Waters for Steve Webb who hammered home from 12 yards out.

The hosts doubled their lead nine minutes later when the impressive Webb skipped past two challenges before squaring for Scott Ansell who's drive skimmed off the surface for his second strike of the season.

After the break the home side had chances to seal the victory. First, after a dubious hand-ball decision in the 52nd minute Kitson clipped the bottom of the post from the spot and in turn fired the rebound over.

Chances came at either end as Cocks again went close when linking up with Ansell, whilst at the other end Rickard again tested Dowrick.

Rickard did eventually pull a goal back for the away side in the 68th minute when he pulled away from his marker and he slotted home from the edge of the box, to fire home his 10th goal of the season.

Kitson did get his goal in the 72nd minute after Ross Pinhammer was fouled in the box by Darren Higman, and Kitson stepped up to fire home from 12 yards out sending Allen the wrong way in the process, and also take his tally for the season into double figures.

Tuesday September 5 2006

Bodmin Town Reserves 3-2 Sticker

TWO late goals from Bodmin saw the hosts inflict a second defeat in the space of a   week for Sticker, at Priory Park.

With the majority of the football being played in the middle third of the pitch the chances were few and far between in the first half.

Although after 16 minutes, the excellent Nick Dowling shot just wide of Chris Dowrick's left hand post from the edge of the box.

With the away side looking dangerous on the break, the stern defensive unit of Darren Giles, Steve Hoskin and Kevin Kingdon managed to keep Sticker's attackers under raps.

The second 45 did prove a lot more exciting, and after just seven minutes the deadlock was broken.

The goal came from a driving run from the impressive Steve Webb who held off two challenges before seeing his shot parried by Paul Clarke in the Bodmin goal, but goal-poacher Chris Kitson was at the far post to tap home his 100th goal in just his 91st game for Sticker.

The lead didn't last long and within two minutes, Ian McKeller's in-swinging corner found the head of young striker Jason Ames to grab his second goal in as many games.

With Josh Higman causing the home side's experienced back-line problems, Sticker found their second goal on the hour mark when Derek Thompson's free-kick picked out Kitson, and after turning his marker and hammered past Clarke from eight yards out, to grab his 12th goal of the season so far, and his 101st for the club.

The hosts upped their game in search of another leveller and Phil Dingle blocked an Ian McKeller shot, with twenty minutes left on the clock.

After Kitson missed a chance of a hat-trick, Nigel Kent's side grabbed the eqailser through Kieron Watkins as Sticker's young side started to loose their concentration, with seven minutes left on the clock.

And after 17-year-old Mark Smith cleared the ball off the line, Bodmin snatched a last gasp winner with a minute to go when centre-half Steve Hoskin managed to get his head to an in-swinging free-kick and guide his head past Sticker goalkeeper Chris Dowrick.

Saturday September 9 2006

Sticker 2-3 Launceston Reserves

ANOTHER late goal conceded handed Sticker their second defeat in a week after they went down 3-2 at home to Launceston at Burngullow Park, in the Rowett Insurance Broking Group League Cup.

The away side looked bright and were quickest out of the traps with the wind in the favour and were rewarded when Matt Andrews headed a third minute lead.

The home side felt aggravated after half an hour when Chris Kitson had a goal disallowed, although the Sticker faithful were unsure about the decision made by the officials.

On 38 minutes a defensive mishap allowed for the visitors to double their lead when Paul Banks tapped home.

The home side halved the advantage two minutes before the break when Steve Webb beat two Launceston defenders before his cross found Chris Kitson at the far post, and his right foot shot found the top corner.

After a half-time dressing down the hosts started the second half well and after just three minutes Kitson missed when well placed.

The home side didn't have to wait long before being level after 54 minutes when Scott Ansell was brought down by Sam Scott, and left Chris Kitson to shoot home from 12 yards out to record his 14th goal of the season.

With chances falling at either end, Kitson and Scott exchanged chances at either end.

But, with seven minutes on the clock remaining the home side were caught on the break and James Turner shot past Chris Dowrick when fed by the impressive Scott.

Sticker through the alamo at Launceston in search of an equaliser but unlike John Wayne it was not to be as Ross Pinhammer, Josh Higman and substitute Chipper Husego, all tested the goalkeeping of Matt Harris, but to no avail.

on Saturday Sticker get back to league action as take a trip to Launceston in search of revenge.

Saturday September 16 2006

Launceston Reserves 1-1 Sticker

STICKER could not gain full revenge for their loss against Launceston last week as they shared a 1-1 draw with their mid-Cornwall hosts at Pennygillam.

With both goals coming in a lively second half, it was the away side who got the first breakthrough when some excellent play from Steve Webb on the hour found Ross Pinhammer and he whipped the ball past Matt Harris in the Launceston goal for his fifth goal of the season.

The hosts switched to a 3-4-3 and eventually the tactical change paid off when they forced an equaliser with ten minutes left on the clock.

Mark Goodman had the glory as he cleverly chipped past Chris Dowrick in the Sticker goal.

On Satuday Sticker make the trip to Priory Park to face Bodmin, kick-off is at 2:30pm.

Saturday September 23 2006

Bodmin Town Reserves 2-3 Sticker

STICKER returned to winning ways as they saw off the challenge of Bodmin Town reserves 3-2 at Priory Park.

The hosts started well and took the lead after 11 minutes, on the counter attack when Steve Cloke's driving run and shot was turned away by Chris Dowrick only for Shane Hearn to give the home side the lead.

Sticker, who did have a fair amount of the play continued to play football on an excellent surface, grabbed the equaliser on 17 minutes when a short corner was worked  and allowed for Kristian Waters to play the ball back into the area where Chris Kitson was ready to pounce and hammer home the equaliser.

The away side continued to control the game and saw Ross Pinhammer, Scott Ansell and Chris Kitson all find Paul Clarke in top form in the Bodmin goal.

Sticker turned the game on it's head on the hour mark when the impressive Ansell turned two midfielders before playing in hard-working Pinhammer and he squared for his strike partner Kitson, to slide home his 16th goal of the season, and lead the league's top goal scorer chart, for the third successive season.

Bodmin upped their game in search of a leveller and again Clarke was keeping the game alive with a string of great saves he managed to keep Josh Higman and Pinhammer from adding their names to the score-sheet.

Sticker somewhat sealed the win with 15 minutes left on the clock when Derek Thompson's 25 yard strike found it's way into the back of the net but only after the ball cannoned off the crossbar and Ian MacKeller couldn't manage to keep the ball out of Clarke's goal.

Two minutes later, the contest was again alive when a shot out of nowhere from impressive young substitute Jason Aimes brought the hosts back into the game.

But Sticker held strong, and after Chris Dowrick turned away Nick Dowling's rasping 25 yard effort, the away side held on to secure all three points.

On Saturday Sticker make the trip to play Wadebridge, however, the game will be played at Camelford kick-off is at 2:30pm.

Tuesday September 26 2006

Saltash United Reserves 1-0 Sticker

STICKER'S poor form in the Rowett Cup continued as they lost to a goal three minutes from time to allow Saltash revenge for their opening day 7-0 defeat.

In a game with few clear cut chances it took a goal late on to separate these two young sides, when it seemed likely that the game was to end in a draw.

The closest either side came to a goal, was the visitors but Ross Pinhammer shot wide and Chris Kitson had a shot blocked, in the eventless first half.

After the break there was not much change with neither side looking like breakthrough, however, gaining more pressure as the game progressed the hosts grabbed the winner, when an inch perfect cross found Josh Lamton who cut in at the far post to shoot past Chris Dowrick, and seal the three points for the home side.

Saturday September 30 2006

Sticker 4-0 Wadebridge Town Reserves

STICKER showed their credentials as they moved up to second place after defeating Wadebridge Town reserves 4-0, at Burngullow Park.

In an even first-half there was very little between the two sides, although hot-shot striker Chris Kitson gave Sticker an early lead after he latched on to a Scott Ansell through ball.

With Ansell and Kristian Waters pulling the strings in the middle of the park for Sticker, it took until around the hour when the home side made it two.

For new signing Bobbylee Johns, from St Austell, it was his first touch on as a substitute with a free-kick from the edge of the box that helped double Sticker's lead.

Kitson chased down a back pass to make it three before forcing home to complete the rout and his hat-trick to score his 19th goal of the season.

The hosts defence of Phil Dingle, Daniel Meens and Mark Smith defended well throughout, with Meens keeping the exciting Johnny May quiet.

Meens also came closest to adding a fifth for Sticker, when his 40 yard drive came back off the upright.

Sticker manager Glyn Rowett said: "The pitch was again in excellent condition, although the wind did play a big factor, in the second half.

"The clean sheet will be good for confidence, the defence looked strong today, and they never really came close to scoring.

"We have managed to strengthen the squad in signing Bobbylee (Johns) and Bryn (Sundercombe) who has stepped up from the second team, and we now have put together a very good squad."

On Saturday, Sticker host Bodmin Town, kick-off at Burngullow Park will be at 2:30pm.

Tuesday October 4 2006

St Blazey Reserves 2-1 Sticker

A late Gareth Geech goal was enough for St Blazey reserves to defeat Sticker 2-1, at Blaise Park in the Rowett Cup.

After a tentative start, where Jon Rundle and Steve Webb exchanged chances at either end, the hosts who started to take control of the game took a deserved lead after 16 minutes when a good build up led to Steve Wearne picking the ball up and sliding it home for his 12th goal of the season.

The home side continued to dominate large parts of the game, although the away side did look dangerous whilst on the counter attack, and Wearne nearly doubled his and St Blazey's advantage when he got away from his marker before shooting just wide of the goal, two minutes later.

After the break, Sticker came out looking much more determined and after Steve Webb and Chris Kitson, went close before the break, the visitors grabbed their eqauliser on the hour mark when Kitson beat Justin Harrington and crossed for Bryn Sundercombe to head home from two yards out.

The goal seemed to spur Glyn Rowett's side on however, the pressure that they had could not allow them to force home a winner, as both Webb and Kitson went close to grabbing all three points.

In the end it was the substitute Geech who was to be the hero when with two minutes remaining, he chased what seemed to be a lost cause to get onto the end of a through ball before Chris Dowrick, to slot home the winner.

Rowett's charges continued to push in search of a winner, but to no avail, with both centre-halves Daniel Meens and Mark Smith shooting just wide from the corner.

Saturday October 7 2006

Sticker 2-1 Bodmin Town Reserves

STICKER continued their good season as they defeated Bodmin Town reserves 2-1, and would have gone to the top of the table for the first time in over 20 years, if St Dennis hadn't pulled out of the East Cornwall League on Friday.

The home side made a good start to the game and took the lead after just 12 minutes when Ross Pinhammer chased down Bodmin goalkeeper Paul Clarke, and Clarke's kick found it's way to Chris Kitson, and the league's top goalscorer cooly slotted home from 20 yards out into an empty net.

The lead was doubled on 28 minutes when the impressive Bryn Sundercombe picked Kitson to within the inch, and the talismanic striker slotted home from just six yards out.

After dominating the first period, Sticker pushed for the third goal, and in the opening minute young winger Josh Higman picked out Kitson, but his hat-trick was denied as he was adjudged to have been offside.

The hosts quest for a second goal continued but it wouldn't come and saw Kitson, Higman, Kristian Waters and Sundercombe all go close.

The away side did give their hosts a scare late on when Paul Cloke headed home at the far post with five minutes remaining, but in the end the Sticker back-line held firm, to grab all three points.

On Saturday, Sticker hosts Saltash in the Rowett Cup, kick off is at 2:30pm.

Saturday October 14 2006

Sticker 2-1 Saltash United Reserves

STICKER kick-started their Rowett Cup campaign, picking up only their second win from six, as they defeated a heavily improved Saltash United Reserve side 2-1, at Burngullow Park.

The home side started without young Dan Meens coming back from illness and Josh Higman who failed to get through the warm up, therefore needed to reshuffle the pack, and this led to the away side starting the brighter and it took the home side a while to settle to their quick pace.

Glyn Rowett's charges began to dominate mid-way through the first half and scored a great goal when Bryn Sundercombe cut in from the right to provide the lively Ross Pinhammer, who snapped up the chance to volley home on the turn from 20 yards out.

Rowett's charges could have gone in two goals to the good but saw Steve Webb set up Pinhammmer only for the fleet-footed attacker to miss hit when close in.

The away side again started the brighter and deserved their 60th minute equaliser when Scott Summerfield found himself in acres of space to finish past Chris Dowrick.

The game then flowed from end to end with the young Saltash keeper and Dowrick showing well in a quick paced game.

However, the Burngullow based outfit sealed all three points with ten minutes remaining when Chris Kitson had the one chance he had been waiting for when he latched on to a through ball from Bobbylee Johns to skip past his marker and finish clinically, to grab his 21st goal of the season.

Sticker manager Glyn Rowett said: " It was a good advertisement for the young players of the East Cornwall League with referee Derek Cox having a great game in the middle, no bookings just good football."

Tuesday October 18 2006

Liskeard Athletic Reserves 2-4 Sticker

A SUPERB fight-back from two goals down helped Sticker climb to the top of the East Cornwall Premier League, for the first time in over 20 years.

The home side started brightly with the little 'n' large strike partnership of Ryan Powell and Joe Kennedy causing the Sticker back guard some troubles.

And it was Powell who was at the heart of the opening goal which came in the 25th minute when on the counter attack Powell's shot was saved by Chris Dowrick in the Sticker goal only for the ball to find it ways to Jamie Powell and the midfielder guided his 20 yard effort into the back of the net.

12 minutes later the hosts doubled the lead when Bobbylee John's efforts to keep Joe Kennedy's long range strike out of the unguarded net where in vain, as the away side saw Kennedy's shot trickle into the corner of the net.

Two minutes later, Sticker started their fight-back when Kristian Waters' inch perfect cross picked out Chris Kitson and he had the simple task of firing past Rob Brown from close range.

The away side, came out with a vengeance after the break and in the 52nd minute saw Brown pull of a fantastic double save to deny both Kitson and Scott Ansell.

The scores were level, in the 63rd minute when Brown's miss kick found it's way to Kitson and the hit-man's 25 yard strike went straight into the open goal.

The fight-back was complete, with ten minutes to go when after being picked out by Ansell, Kitson chipped Brown from the edge of the area to complete his hat-trick and take his tally for the season to 24.

In the final moments of the game, the result could have ended in a variety of different ways, Ross Pinhammer managed to free himself from the Liskeard back-line but shot wide of Brown, when it seemed as if he was certain to find the back of the net.

And from the resulting goal kick, Dan Meens was adjudged to have felled in the box, but the impressive Dowrick was equal to the resulting penalty, before Johns reacted the quickest and cleared the ball.

The visitors, sealed the win just moments later when Kitson beat two men and after seeing his shot saved by Brown, Pinhammer made up for his earlier miss as he bundled home the fourth goal.

Saturday October 21 2006

Torpoint Athletic Reserves 2-1 Sticker

STICKER, maintained their place at the top of the East Cornwall Premier League despite going down 2-1 to a spirited Torpoint Athletic side.

After winning their last two cup games, the confident hosts started brightly and took the lead when Ben Waters, in a rich vein of form, finished after a cross by Luke Avis-Riordan.

With Danny Medlin, Darren Wills and Kevin Digby on top form for the home side, they managed to double the lead when Waters notched a second after a Dean Cardew knockdown.

The away side finally picked up the pace in search of a way back into the game, however poor finishing cost the league's leading scorers dear as they attempted to grab a point.

The deficit was halved in the final stages when Dave Kitson's drive came back off the crossbar only for brother Chris to tap home his 25th goal of the season.

Tonight, Sticker travel to Launceston in the Rowett Cup, kick-off is at 7:30pm.

Saturday October 28 2006

Sticker 1-0 Kilkhampton

Westinsure Cornwall Senior Cup First Round

STICKER booked their place in the second round of the Westinsure Cornwall Cup with a comfortable one goal win over North Devon league side Kilkhampton, at Burngullow Park.

In a game played in an excellent spirit the home grabbed their only goal mid-way through the second half when Steve Webb picked out substitute Ross Pinhammer, and the 17-year-old hit-man palmed his effort into the back of the net.

Webb later had a shot blocked by a defender after side stepping the goalkeeper, whilst clean through on goal, top goal-scorer Chris Kitson had a chance to seal the win but he fired wide when well placed.

Kilkhampton, raised their game late on, pushing men forward but with skipper Phil Dingle solid at the back any chance of a Kilk comeback was never really on the cards.

Sticker manager Glyn Rowett said: "We didn't play to well, but we got the win and that is the main thing, it will be interesting to see the draw, we may get one of the giants of Cornish football, which would be nice for the club."

On Saturday, Sticker face the trip to play Lanreath in the Rowett Cup, kick-off is at 2:30pm.

Saturday November 11 2006

Foxhole Stars 3-1 Sticker

A RICHARD Griffin double was the difference as he allowed for his Foxhole Stars side to leapfrog rivals Sticker into second place, with a 3-1 win at Goverseth Place.

After an even start to the game, it was Griffin who had the first real chance of the game, after just five minutes but his drive from 20 yards out whizzed just past the post.

And after Chris Kitson's turn and shot ended just wide, the home side made the breakthrough after 18 minutes when Scott Hill's corner was headed home by Mark Rowe, after a flick-on by Jeff Dillon, at the near post.

The Foxes then had the ascendancy, and after 27 minutes the lead was nearly doubled when a good run from Hill allowed for Chris Brown to cross but, his pinpoint center was safely headed over his own bar by Daniel Meens.

It didn't take the home side to long to double their lead, the 33rd minute to be exact, when a counter-attack found Griffin in behind the Sticker back-line and he chipped goalkeeper Chris Dowrick from 20 yards out, sending his shot in off the post.

Hill and Adam Bromley both went close for the home side, as Sticker started to up their game, with their possession starting to create chances and after Dave Kitson had headed a free header over the bar, the away side were back in with a shout when they pulled a goal back three minutes before the break.

When a corner from the impressive Scott Ansell picked out the evergreen Chris Kitson, who headed home a rare goal, his 26th of the season, already.

The goal gave more confidence to the young Sticker side who continued to play some neat attractive football, although not creating too many clear cut chances, but, after the break could have fallen further behind when Brown, Bromley and an acrobatic bicycle kick from Hill all went close to making it three, for Foxhole.

The away side did have the odd to chance to find a way back in and with substitute Josh Higman causing troubling down the right, Bryn Sundercombe picked out Chris Kitson, but the hit-man fired over Ryan Holland's bar when well placed.

The home side sealed the win with 15 minutes left on the clock, when Bromley's switch picked out Griffin, and the hard-spoken wide-man fired into the roof of the net from the edge of the area.

The away side did continue to push to find another way back into the game and saw both brothers Dave and Chris Kitson go close, before substitute Mark Smith had a shot blocked by Holland, in the Foxhole goal.

Foxhole Stars manager Billy Davies said: "I am pleased to win, it was a hard game, between two good sides, and it could have gone either way.

"Both teams had periods of dominance, but, we managed to take our chances."

On Saturday, Foxhole are away to Dobwalls, in the Rowett Cup, whilst Sticker continue in league action, with a trip to face Camelford, both games kick-off at 2:30pm.

Saturday November 18 2006

Camelford 1-2 Sticker

STICKER retained their place at the top of the East Cornwall Premier League as they saw off the challenge of Camelford 2-1, on an excellent playing surface at Trefrew.

The home side started the game on the offensive, but against the run of play fell behind when young Patrick Rushton's cross picked out Josh Insley who expertly headed home.

The Camels nearly doubled their lead moments later when Darren Fryer broke through but his effort shot ended up just wide of the post.

Playing some good football the away side nearly levelled matters when the lively Chris Kitson forced Camelford goalkeeper Jimmy Vernon to save well.

However, five minutes before the break Vernon could only claw the ball out of the back of his net, when he was caught completely unawares as he was lobbed from 30 yards out by Kitson, to take the teams in level at the break.

The visitors continued to take the game to their hosts and eventually got the breakthrough with 10 minutes left on the clock, as a good team move resulted in Kitson placing home his 28th goal of the season, after substitute Ross Pinhammer had seen his goal-bound effort saved by the impressive Vernon.

Sticker manager Glyn Rowett said: "It was nice to get three points away from home.

"The game was a good spectacle, with two young teams going out there to play football.

"The lads did well, Kitsy (Chris Kitson) was on fire, Josh (Higman) and Webby (Steve Webb) looked lively on the wings, and our midfield controlled the game for long periods."

On Saturday Sticker make the trip to face South Western League champions Bodmin Town, in the Westinsure Cornwall Senior Cup, kick-off at Priory Park will be at 2:30pm.

Saturday November 25

Bodmin Town 3 Sticker 0

STICKER'S youngsters hopes of a potential giant killing, were gunned down as they went down to South Western League champions Bodmin Town, eventually losing 3-0 at Priory Park.

The hosts who included seven players named in the County squad in their starting line up started brightly and could have had an early lead after just five minutes but, winger Matt Godfree saw his shot well blocked by Sticker sweeper Dave Kitson.

The hosts again went close to taking the lead three minutes later but, county ace Danny O'Hagan shot just over after an expert turn and spin on the edge of the box.

On 13 minutes, Bodmin had a shout for penalty when Phil Dingle was adjudged to have fouled Glen Squires, but, referee Martin Pethick was having none of it, and waved away the host's protests.

After Chris Kitson's hopeful shot was plucked out of the area by Cornwall stopper Jason Chapman, Bodmin continued to control the proceedings and on 17 minutes could have made the breakthrough but Huw Morgan failed to convert O'Hagan's header across the goal.

The hosts didn't give up there and again went close to opening the scoring on 20 minutes when skipper Darren Gilbert shot just wide of the post.

Morgan nearly made up for his earlier miss but he headed Godfree's centre over the bar, on 26 minutes.

Six minutes later however, Sticker's resilience was finally broken. Centre-half Steve Simmonds came forward from the back and his through ball found Squires who squared for his strike partner O'Hagan, and the former Plymouth Argyle hit-man placed his shot past Chris Dowrick in the Sticker goal.

The home side had further chances to double their lead before the break, with Squires testing Dowrick's handling, and O'Hagan having his goal-bound effort blocked by the outstanding Daniel Meens.

After the break, the hosts finally found the second goal when the impressive O'Hagan found time and space on the edge of the area, before cooly slotting home his 14th goal of the season.

On the hour, the away side nearly found their way back into the game, when Bryn Sundercombe broke free from the Bodmin defence, when intercepting the ball, but Chapman denied him in a one-on-one situation.

Seven minutes later Bodmin's place in the third round of the Westinsure Cornwall Senior Cup was booked when the exceptional Sean Flynn, formerly of Coventry City, Derby County and West Brom, headed Gilbert's corner into the top of the net.

The hosts continued to dominate the proceedings, but could find no way past 19-year-old goalkeeper Dowrick, and the stern defensive unit, of which 16-year-old defender Meens showed maturity above his years.

Sticker manager Glyn Rowett said: "Bodmin were great opposition for our youngsters to test their skills out against some of the best players in the County.

"I am sure that after the game the lads would have come out with aspirations to progress in their careers, and they all battled hard and gave 110% and were a credit to the club."

This Saturday, Sticker are without a game, due to the Westinsure Cornwall Junior Cup.

Sticker 1-0 Lanreath

CHRIS Kitson popped up 20 minutes from the end to earn 10 man Sticker a 1-0 win over Lanreath in the Rowett Cup, at Burngullow Park.
The Sticker hot-shot continued his goal-scoring season as he grabbed his 29th strike of the season.
The hosts seemingly dominated the first half but failed to take their chances.
Along with Kitson who fired wide of the post on two occasions, Steve Webb also missed a header at the far post when picked out by Bryn Sundercombe.
Sticker manager Glyn Rowett was twice forced to re-shuffle his strike-force losing both Ross Pinhammer and Sundercombe to injury, leaving Bobbylee Johns to fill his boots as a make-shift front-man.
The closest that the away side came to grabbing an equaliser was when the lively Nick Bailee went all the way through the Sticker side, but in the end shot wide, for the side who clearly lacked fire power.
The hosts finally found the breakthrough after Gary Warren had sent an effort wide of the post in the 70th minute when Chris Kitson grabbed the winner.
Brother Dave saw his shot parried away, before seeing his older brother Chris, find the roof of the net with his powerful drive,
Five minutes later, Sticker were reduced to 10 men for the first time this season, when Dave Kitson was sent off for a bad two-footed challenge on Bailee.
Sticker manager Glyn Rowett said: "I can have no complaints on the sending off, it was a bad challenge.

Sticker 7-0 Lifton

A CHRIS Kitson hat-trick inside the opening 15 minutes was enough to inspire Sticker to an emphatic 7-0 win over Lifton, to continue their recent good form in the Rowett Cup.

The home side were quick out the blocks and after just 45 seconds took the lead when Josh Higman picked out Kitson and the evergreen striker stroked the ball home into the back of the net, for his 30th goal of the season.

Minutes later, the lead was doubled when Steve Webb worked the ball to Kitson, who held of the challenge before firing home his second goal.

Kitson’s trio was sealed in the 15th minute after the ball was failed to be cleared, the deflection off a defender, found Kitson and the fleet-footed hit-man found the back of the net for his 32nd goal of the season.

The hosts didn’t stop there, and after good work from Higman, he crossed for the oncoming Scott Ansell who to fire home the fourth goal.

Sticker kept up the pace of the game and with Ansell and Kristian Waters excelling in the midfield, before the break it was five when Bobbylee Johns’ shot was saved and Webb was there to find the corner of the net.

After the interval, the home side kept working hard, and managed to keep their third clean sheet in a row with the wind behind them.

It was six for Sticker after good work from a corner and after a poor clearance, allowed for the hard-working Waters to fire the ball into the back of the net, from 20 yards out.

The rout was sealed when centre-half Daniel Meens picked out substitute Ross Pinhammer, and the young striker placed the ball of the back of the net.

Sticker manager Glyn Rowett said: “Under the conditions, we played some excellent football.

“We certainly went at it early, and it is good to get another clean sheet.”

Saturday January 6

Sticker 5-2 Bodmin

A SECOND hat-trick in a week for Chris Kitson, inspired Sticker to a second half comeback, after being 2-1 down, eventually fighting back to win 5-2 against Bodmin Town Reserves, at Burngullow Park.

In a hard-fought first half on an excellent playing surface at Burngullow Road, the away side shot into the lead after 15 minutes when the hard working Steve Cloke fired home.

This seemed to raise the home side up a gear, and after being picked out by Daniel Meens, Kristian Waters hit the Bodmin crossbar.

Before the break, Sticker levelled matters when after being picked out by Chris Dowrick's long goal kick Kitson got in and fired home from 20 yards out, and it could have been two shortly after when Kitson missed from three yards out after Steve Webb had crossed for his strike partner.

After in the interval, the hosts upped their game, but, again fell behind against the run of play when Billy Daynes restored the away side's lead.

Fearing defeat, Sticker upped their game, and in a 25 minute period sealed all three points with four goals, to further Sticker's chances of qualifying for the last 16 of the competition.

The scoreline, were level soon after when a short corner worked between midfielders Scott Ansell and the fleet-footed Josh Higman, allowed for the latter to fire home from just inside the box, after cutting in from the left.

The game was turned on its head minutes later when Kitson turned provider to cross for substitute Daniel Nancarrow to volley home from a tight angle at the far post.

Nancarrow again went close when his header came back off the crossbar before two further Kitson goals sealed all three points for the home side.

The first saw a defensive mix-up led to the young Bodmin goalkeeper dropping the ball, Kitson then saw his first effort come back off the post, before shooting past the last defender from a tight angle to make it four.

The rout was sealed just before the end when Kitson sealed his hat-trick after the inspiring Ansell skipped past a couple of chances before crossing for Kitson to hammer home from 10 yards out to complete his trio, and grab his 35th goal of the season.

Saturday January 13

Sticker 2-1 Foxhole

AN OWN goal three minutes from time allowed Sticker to move level on points with local rivals Foxhole Stars at the top of the East Cornwall Premier League.

The win leaves the home side in second spot, due to the Foxes' superior goal difference as the title race continues to be the closest for years with both Dobwalls and Probus hot on the top two's heels.

In a first half, of little chances both sides competed well with Sticker perhaps looking the brighter, when getting the ball wide, but, the Foxes young strike force was always on hand to cause the Sticker back-line troubles.

In fact it was the away side who had the first opportunity of the half, after 25 minutes when Jamie Bullock saw his 25-yard drive fall safely into the hands of Sticker goalkeeper Chris Dowrick.

The home side's best chance of the half came just after the half hour, when a bit of indecision between Jeff Dillon and goalkeeper Ryan Holland allowed for Chris Kitson to get in, but, the evergreen forward could only fire into the side netting.

With Billy Davies' voice still ringing in their ears the visitors started the second half brightly and within a minute could have taken the lead but Chris Phillips fired over from the edge of the box.

With the home side defending well, it took 11 minutes of second half action before the deadlock was broken.

A Phillips through ball picked out Scott Hill, who was well marshaled throughout, but this time Hill got away from his marker when he fired home across Dowrick into the bottom corner of the net.

Moments later, the visitors went close to doubling their lead but lively substitute Chris Brown fired just over the crossbar.

The hosts kept plugging away and were level on the hour when former Fox-James Avery saw his right-wing cross deflect into the back of the net, off Jeff Dillon.

With tempers starting to flare, Phillips and Avery exchanges chances at either end, as both sides looked to make the breakthrough and condemn their opponents to defeat.

Arguably, Foxhole's best two chances to steal all three points fell to the same player, within five minutes of each other.

Firstly, in the 77th minute Adam Bromley saw his effort hit the post after Gary Warren had cleared off the line, and the rebound was expertly tipped round the post by Dowrick.

Five minutes later, Bromley again went close when Dowrick had been disposed but, the young midfield man fired wide with the goal gaping.

Sticker's dogged defending was rewarded three minutes from time when after being fed by the impressive Scott Ansell young winger Josh Higman skipped past two challenges before seeing his cross turned into his own net by centre-half Dillon, leaving Holland flat-footed.

After the game, Foxhole Stars manager Billy Davies said: "The best team deserved to win the game.

"We were rubbish, to be honest with you, they showed more appetite and desire to win the game."

Saturday January 20

Sticker 1-0 Liskeard

STICKER leapfrogged Foxhole Stars into first spot, at the top of the East Cornwall Premier League with a one goal victory over Liskeard Athletic reserves, at Burngullow Park.

With the weather not on football's side the home side were made to battle for their three points over a strong and tenacious Liskeard side.

The home side perhaps started the better and just 10 minutes in could have taken the lead when James Avery set up Scott Ansell, but the midfielder could only shoot into goalkeeper Rob Brown's hands.

The hosts did make the breakthrough nine minutes later when Ansell who had already beaten one man was fouled in the box by centre-half Adam Billings.

From the resulting spot kick Chris Kitson cooly sent Brown the wrong way to record his 36th goal of the season.

It could have been more for Sticker before the break but Brown, who excelled himself, managed to keep Sticker down to just one goal, a save from Avery being the pick of a bunch.

After the interval, Liskeard upped their game and had Sticker on the back-foot but to their credit held strong to record all three points, with goalkeeper Chris Dowrick and centre-halves Daniel Meens and Phil Dingle defending stubbornly.

Liskeard did have a shout for a penalty when the impressive Neil Mullis was hurled to the floor by Sticker sweeper Derek Thompson, but the referee was having none of the experienced full-back's protests.

Sticker manager Glyn Rowett said: "Chris Dowrick continues to improve, he has taken some hefty batterings, but only letting three goals in the last six games is a testament to his improvement that has been helped with the assistance of Matthew Chadwick."

Saturday January 27

Padstow 1-2 Sticker

STICKER extended their lead at the top to of the East Cornwall Premier League to five points, as they came from behind to defeat Padstow 2-1, at Jury Park.

The home side were quick out the traps as they made the top-of-the-table outfit battle for every ball, and it was the hosts who took the lead after three minutes.

Martin Murt's cross-come-shot from 25 yards out, flew right into the top corner of the net above Sticker goalkeeper Chris Dowrick.

The away side managed to dominate the proceedings and the closest they came after 15 minutes when Kristian Waters fired just over after a flick-on from the influential Scott Ansell, whilst Murt again tested Dowrick's handling just before the break.

After the interval, the away side showed great character playing down the hill, securing all three points, with two goals in a five minute spell.

The first came on the hour when after a miss-kick from the goalkeeper, found Ansell who picked out Chris Kitson who in turn nodded the ball down for winger Steve Webb to expertly fire into the bottom corner of the net.

Glyn Rowett's charges continued to attack and grabbed a second goal five minutes later when Ansell curled the ball into the top corner of the net, from the left after being picked out by young flank-man Josh Higman.

Both sides had chances to extend the scoring, but, the closest either side came was with 15 minutes to go, when Martin Rickard had a 'goal' disallowed after being picked out by Murt, who was adjudged to have been offside.

Sticker defended stubbornly with Derek Thompson, Daniel Meens and Phil Dingle on top form, allowing the visitors to pick up all three points.

Saturday February 3

Lanreath 3-3 Sticker

STICKER need just a point from their final two games to secure qualification in the last 16 of the Rowett Cup after sharing six goals equally at Lanreath.

Sticker's hopes of picking up all three points from this latest game were not helped when goalkeeper Chris Dowrick was brought down with the flu, leaving Matthew Chadwick to play his first game in goal after five years.

The home side started well and managed to sustain continuos pressure on the home side, which eventually lead them to breaking the deadlock.

After 18 minutes Andy Collins brought down Chris Kitson in the box, and the evergreen Kitson stood up to the task and cooly slotted home into the bottom left hand corner, of the net.

This seemed to kick the home side into life and they went two goals up in a matter of minutes.

Ryan Childs levelled the scores for the hosts before Bradley Powell fired Lanreath into the lead.

But this lead didn't last too long whe Scott Ansell played Kitson through and the high-pitched hit-man hammered home his 38th goal of the season, in the 25th minute.

The game was again turned on it's head just moments before the break when Kitson turned provider when putting Ansell through and the 19-year-old midfielder chipped the oncoming Lanreath goalkeeper Jamie Castle from 20 yards out.

After the interval, Sticker continued their domination of the game, but the hosts fought back against the run of play to snatch a point when Childs sealed his brace, firing past Chadwick.

Both sides had chances to win the game, as Sticker held on to extend their unbeaten run to eight games.

Sticker manager Glyn Rowett said: "We played some really good football on a bumpy pitch.

"We looked in control of the game throughout, and really should have picked up all three points."

Saturday February 10

Lifton 2-2 Sticker

STICKER let to a two goal lead slip as they were held to a 2-2 draw in boggy conditions at Lifton.

The away side, who extended their unbeaten run to nine games, started well and twice in the opening 10 minutes Chris Kitson had shots blocked by a defender and young goalkeeper Chris Wearing.

To their credit, both sides tried to play football in the wet and windy conditions, and after Josh Higman had tested Wearing's handling at one end, Chris Prettjyjohn forced Chris Dowrick to save after finding himself in behind the Sticker back-line.

But, in the 35th minute Sticker's early pressure paid off when they took the lead. Midfielder Scott Ansell picked the ball up from the far right hand side, and after an expert turn and dummy saw the 19-year-old save his shot, deflect off a defender and find the top corner of the net, leaving Wearing rooted the spot.

The visitors continued to plug away and five minutes later doubled the lead, when Chris Kitson fired home from a tight angle on the left after rounding the keeper, when latching onto a through-ball from sweeper Derek Thompson.

After the interval, both sides continued to battle away, with Lifton putting Sticker , who lost both defenders Daniel Meens and Thompson to injuries, under some heavy pressure, but failing to find that killer touch.

After Kitson, who earlier grabbed his 39th goal of the campaign, had a headed goal disallowed for offside, the hosts halved the Sticker lead with an expert route one move finding the ball in the back of the net, with just 20 minutes remaining.

A long free-kick at the back picked out Matt Endacott and the little striker managed to get to the ball before Dowrick, and grab their first goal of the afternoon.

This seemed to galvianice the hosts and they again pushed on in search of an equaliser, and they found it with a little over 10 minutes remaining when a corner was forced home by young full-back Scott Bloomfield, to send their fans into raptures.

In the final moments of the game, both sides had chances to snatch a last gasp winner, but the closest either side came was the Premier League leaders Sticker, who saw prolific front-man Kitson miss from close range, after being picked out by 16-year-old debutant Jay Hill.

After the game Sticker manager Glyn Rowett said: "Once the pitch became cut up, it was a real leveller.

"We were the better side in the first half, but I think the players know that the overall performance wasn't acceptable, and we must know concentrate on picking up all three points next week."

Saturday February 17

Launceston 3-2 Sticker (played at Sticker)

STICKER'S chances of qualifying for the last 16 of the Rowett Cup were given a serious jolt as they went down 3-2 against Launceston, in a game which was switched to Sticker.

Glyn Rowett's charges only needed a point to guarantee their place in the knockout stages, but after being 3-0 down at the break, Sticker's chances of qualifying have taken a serious hit.

Launceston dominated the first half and could have gone a goal up but they blazed the ball wide, after Phil Dingle was deemed to have handled the ball.

It didn't take too long before Launceston established a two goal lead with goals coming from Shaun Turner and the impressive Dan Rogers.

Just before the break the lead was extended to three but Turner picked up on a poor goal kick before firing into the back of the net.

After the interval, Sticker upped their game with striker Jay Chard replacing Ross Pinhammer and with Steve Webb and Josh Higman excelling down the flanks.

Sticker pulled themselves back into the game and when substitute Bobbylee Johns, Chris Kitson headed home a rare headed goal for his 40th goal of the season.

The home side continued to battle away and made the game interesting when Johns fired home when being picked out by winger Higman.

Sticker twice went close to grabbing a late equaliser through midfield maestro Scott Ansell.

Firstly, Ansell's 20-yard drive came back off the crossbar, and just moments later hit the outside off the post after gliding past four strong challenges from the Launceston back-line.

Sticker manager Glyn Rowett said: "If we played with as much enthusiasm in the first half, as we did in the second half, who knows what the result would have been."

Saturday March 3

Wadebridge 0-2 Sticker

GOALS from Scott Ansell and Ross Pinhammer allowed for title chasers Sticker to re-establish their five point gap at the top of the East Cornwall Premier League, with a comfortable 2-0 win at Wadebridge.

Sticker dominated the first half but struggled to turn possession in goals, but after Kristian Waters had a good shout for a penalty turned down, Josh Higman went close after cutting in from the right.

The away side took a deserved lead after 42 minutes when Steve Webb picked out Ansell, who pulled off his marker, and sidestepped a defender before firing in at the second attempt.

After the interval, the visitors continued to dominate the possession, although Wadebridge did have their chances to pull a goal back later in the game.

Sticker all but sealed the win on the hour mark, a short corner worked between Chris Kison and Ansell, allowed for the latter to cross for Ross Pinhammer who fired into the roof of the net to take his tally into double figures for the season.

With Jamie Selwood defending well at the back, the home side had several chances to bring themselves back into the game but goalkeeper Chris Dowrick acrobatically saved well with the hosts pushing on.

The Sticker management were in uproar mid-way through the second half when referee Ian Spurling failed to allow young substitute Jay Hill to enter the game as a substitute.

In a situation similar to that of John Aldridge in 1994, Spurling was convinced that Hill's name was not on the list given to him by the Sticker officials, but, the Saltash-based official later admitted that he had made a personal mistake.

But, in the end the away side held on to their clean sheet to record all three points, and complete a league double over the Bridgers.

Saturday March 10

Sticker 1-1 Camelford

STICKER suffered a setback in the East Cornwall Premier League title race as they dropped two points, fighting back from a goal down to earn a 1-1 draw at home to Camelford.

With the majority of play taking place in the middle third of the field, chances were few and far between at either end.

For the home side, Scott Ansell fired just wide, whilst Bobbylee Johns saw his effort fall  safely into the hands of goalkeeper Jimmy Vernon.

At the other end the impressive young striker Paul Menhenick was always causing problems but Sticker goalkeeper Chris Dowrick was equal to any attacks from the away side.

Soon after the break the hosts had a good chance to open the scoring but top scorer Chris Kitson missed a header from a Ross Pinhammer centre, when well placed at the far post.

Kitson again went close with 20 minutes left on the clock after breaking away from the Camelford back-line but his cute chip was plucked out of the air by Vernon.

The deadlock was finally broken with 12 minutes left, as the game began to become stretched.

The lively Menhenick skipped past a couple of chances, before picking out substitute Chris Tregow who drove for the box and his cross-come-shot found it's way to midfield terrier Adie Jeffs who slid home from close range, at the far post.

The home side responded by pushing three men up front and the tactical change paid off with 8 minutes to go, when Kitson hit the leveler.

Derek Thompson's long ball found substitute James Avery who forced Vernon under pressure and after failing to clear the ball Kitson precisely found the back of the net from 6 yards out, for his 41st goal of the season.

Both sides continued to attack as the game went flew from end-to-end, Menhenick went close for the Camels as Avery fired just wide from the edge of the area.

Saturday March 17

Sticker 1-4 Dobwalls

STICKER were made to rue missed chances as they suffered their heaviest defeat of the season, 4-1 at home to Dobwalls.

For the visitors it allows for them to step up their chase on table-toppers Sticker, as they managed to close their gap at the top to eight points with four games in hand.

It was Sticker however who started the better and could have been two or three goals up as James Avery, Chris Kitson and Scott Ansell all went close.

The away side took the lead however, ten minutes in with their first attack of the game. Manager's son Simon Skews cross-come-shot found the top corner of the net from 30 yards out.

Continuing to miss chances the home side were again punished on 32 minutes when Skews again found the net, when he fired his 20-yard free-kick into the bottom corner, after bending the ball over the wall.

Four minutes later the lead was again extended when Matt Lindsay, who caused problems all afternoon, started and finished a move in which he fired across goalkeeper Chris Dowrick and into the corner of the net.

The visitors furthered their lead again three minutes before the break when Dowrick slipped whilst trying to clear the ball leaving Martyn Hake with the simplest of opportunities to tap into the back of the net.

After the interval, Sticker threw men forward in search of a slight chance of a comeback but found goalkeeper Ellis Glassup in top form.

They did eventually grab a conciliation 11 minutes before the end when winger Josh Higman broke free of the Dobwalls back-line before firing into the bottom corner of the net.

On the counter, Dobwalls did have chances to further their advantage as substitute Jack Bartlett entered he fray as he had an effort cleared off the line by Phil Dingle whilst Matt Lindsay clipped the outside of the post.

After the game, Sticker manager Glyn Rowett said: "We clearly forgot our shooting boots, you can't miss good chances against good sides.

"It was just one of those games. Every season, you have one disaster games, and it was a shame that it came against them."

Saturday March 24

Dobwalls 1-0 Sticker

A SECOND straight defeat at the hands of Dobwalls, has rocked Sticker's hopes of winning the East Cornwall Premier League, as they went down to a single goal at Lantoom Park.

The away side do remain top of the table, but, were again made to rue missed chances as they suffered back-to-back league defeats for he first time of the season.

In a tense encounter the home side made a good start and took the lead after just 10 minutes.

A neat move down the left between Simon Skews and Scott Brown put Martyn Hake in and after his effort was beaten away, Ben Kitto arrived at the far post to fire into the back of the net.

With regular goalkeeper Ellis Glassup and understudy Dan Parsons both unavaiable, former Foxhole stopper Nick Carpenter played in goal.

It was Carpenter's first game between the sticks for the season, but for Sticker there was no way past the towering shot stopper.

Daniel Nancarrow twice forced good saves when one-on-one with the goalkeeper.

Chris Kitson, had a couple of good chances, including dragging the ball wide with the goal gapping, whilst Scott Ansell had a drive come-back off the crossbar.

Sticker manager Glyn Rowett was incensed mid-way through the second half when substitute ross Pinhammer had a shot which appeared to be save on the goal-line by a Dobwalls defender, but to the Sticker team's amazement no penalty was given.

The hosts could have sealed the win 15 minutes from time, when Matt Linsday hit the crossbar.

Sticker Manager  Glyn Rowett said: "We absolutely murdered them, we should have scored bagfuls."

Saturday March 31

Saltash United reserves 1-3 Sticker

THREE second half goals for Sticker enabled the title chasers to continue their push for the championship, as they fought from behind to defeat a plucky Saltash United reserve side 3-1. at Kimberley Stadium.

After two defeats in the last two games against Dobwalls, Sticker returned to winning ways as they picked up all three points from their clash with their North Cornwall based hosts.

With the wind playing it's part the closest that the away side came to a goal was after just seven minutes but midfielder Scott Ansell could only head a Daniel Nancarrow free-kick wide of the post.

Whilst at the other end, the hosts did have their chances as Dave Wright was unlucky when he chipped Sticker goalkeeper Chris Dowrick, only to see his effort spin back off the underside of the crossbar.

The Ashes faithful didn't have to long to wait, just two minutes to be exact when they took a 43rd minute lead.

When young full-back Thomas Jane picked up the in behind the Sticker back-line before looping the ball over the oncoming Dowrick.

After the interval, the away side started to up their game and within five minutes were level when Ansell picked out Nancarrow who ran onto the ball before firing home into an empty net.

This seemed to allow Sticker to up their game, in more confidence and after Chris Kitson had twice gone close, they established a lead for the first time in the game with 15 minutes remaining.

A cross from substitute James Avery was knocked-down by Ansell who found Ross Pinhammer in space to drive home right-footed from just outside the area and into the bottom corner of the net.

With the game becoming more stretched Sticker sealed the win with an 83rd minute goal.

After a great run by Kitson and a save by the goalkeeper Nancarrow picked the ball up from eight yards out before firing into the back of the net.

Tuesday April 3

Probus 4-1 Sticker

STICKER'S dreams of winning the East Cornwall Premier League were well and truly shattered - as they went down 4-1 at the hands of fifth placed Probus.

However, the away side did start the brighter and could have taken the lead early on when Scott Ansell had a header cleared off the line, whilst at the other end Mike Dodd had a similar header cleared by Josh Higman.

It wasn't too long before the visitors took the lead, the 27th minute to be exact when Chris Kitson broke free of the Probus back-line and after a superb run squared for strike partner Ross Pinhammer to tap the ball into the back of the net.

This seemed to get Probus going and within eight minutes they were level, when Mike Dodd's precise shot found the bottom corner of the net.

Two further quick goals before the break seemingly, however, killed the game off.

The first came in  the 43rd minute when young winger Alex Pearce pulled away from his marker before dinking the ball over the top of Sticker goalkeeper Chris Dowrick.

And less than a minute later it was three when Mike Dodd's top class header lopped into the back of the net, leaving Dowrick helpless to stopping it.

After the break, the chances were few and far between, as Sticker pushed on in an attempt to bring themselves back into the game, but it was to no avail, before the rout was sealed 10 minutes from time.

Veteran centre-half Paul Miles brought the ball forward from the back and his shot from just outside the area took a wicked deflection off a Sticker defender before finding it's way into the back of the net past Dowrick, who was understandably rooted to the spot.

Saturday April 7

Wadebridge Town reserves 4-3 Sticker (AET)

Sticker’s disastrous end of the season continued – as they seemingly pressed the self-destruct button, throwing away a 3-0 lead, to go down 4-3, after extra time.

One pleasing thought for Sticker will be the return to form of Chris Kitson, and not even a hat-trick from the league’s leading marksmen could allow for Sticker to progress into the quarter-finals.

The home side started well, as Mike Retter fired wide before Kitson and Higman, the latter hitting the post went close for Sticker.

The first real chance of the game came though after 18 minutes. After a foul by Derek Thompson in the box, Mike Retter saw his spot-kick expertly saved by Sticker goalkeeper Chris Dowrick.

The away side were next to go close on the half hour but Ross Pinhammer’s header at the far post forced an excellent save by the Bridger’s county youth goalkeeper Dave Jones.

A minute later however, Sticker did take the lead. Winger Steve Webb beat two men before swinging in a cross to Kitson, and after an expert touch and spin the free-scoring front-man chipped Jones from just outside the area, to break the deadlock.

After the interval, the visitors came out looking to seal the win and in the 50th minute were awarded a penalty after winger Higman had been brought down. Kitson sent Jones the wrong way from 12 yards out to double the lead.

With the hosts at sixes and sevens it was three just a minute later when Daniel Nancarrow skipped past two players, before finding Pinhammer who crossed for his strike partner Kitson to grab his hat-trick and take his tally for the season to 44.

The visitors had further chances to extend their lead as Higman fired just over the bar and Kitson twice shoot just wide of the target before Wadebridge got themselves back into the game with 29 minutes left on the clock.

After failing to clear the ball Sticker were punished as Retter made up for his earlier penalty miss as he chipped Dowrick from an acute angle to find the top corner of the net.

Two minutes later, it was 3-2 when a good cross found Retter at the far post, and the front-man headed into the far corner of the net.

Both sides had chances to grab the next goal but after Kitson went close again Wadebridge completed the turn-around grabbing an equaliser with 15 minutes left to go.

A long shot from the back was saved and with Retter free in the box the lively striker tapped into the back of the net to complete his hat-trick.

Retter didn’t finish there as a goal in the 108th minute of the game sealed a place in the last eight for the hosts.

Jon May got in behind the Sticker back-line and from his cross from the left he picked out his strike partner Retter who got a foot on his marker, before firing into the corner of the net.

Sticker huffed and puffed late on to try and take the game to penalties, but Wadebridge held on to book a quarter-final tie at home to Launceston, in the next round.

Saturday April 21

Sticker 3-1 Padstow

STICKER returned to winning ways as they comfortably defeated Padstow 3-1, in their final home game of the season, at Burngullow Park.

The home side in fact may have been guilty of trying to walk the ball into the net at times as they created enough chances to win the game by a much larger distance than by just two goals.

The hosts started well and could halve taken the lead inside the opening minute, but top scorer Chris Kitson shot just wide of the post after a defensive mistake.

Continuing to create chances Kitson, Steve Webb and Dave Kitson all went close before Sticker finally made the breakthrough on 26 minutes.

After a foul in the box, Kitson sent goalkeeper Neil Carhart the wrong way from 12 yards out to shoot the hosts into the lead.

With the majority of the possession Sticker continued to attack and after Webb had hit the woodwork, Kitson had a goal disallowed for offside on 36 minutes.

The hosts had further chances to grab a second goal before the break but both James Avery and Kitson’s efforts both finished wide of the post.

After the break Sticker continued their control of the game although they were stunned on 50 minutes when Padstow grabbed an equaliser.

Experienced forward Martin Rickard bustled his way past two players before sending his precise finish into the back of the net, past goalkeeper Chris Dowrick.

The home side re-established their lead seven minutes later however, when a Josh Higman corner was headed into the back of the net by Kitson, for his 46th goal of the season.

The home side thought they had got a third goal a minute later but Kitson had a second  goal disallowed for offside after great work from Scott Ansell.

Following the disallowed goal, Ross Pinhammer forced a good save from Carhart; before, Rickard again went close to levelling matters when Dowrick expertly saved from the front-man on 65 minutes.

But, with just five minutes to go Sticker sealed the win when Pinhammer rose above the rest to head home a Higman corner and seal the win.

Sticker could have grabbed a fourth a minute later but both Kitson and substitute James Chapman were denied by a terrific double save from Carhart.

After the game Sticker manager Glyn Rowett told the Voice: “He (Patrick Wellington) was the best referee we have had all season, and their goalkeeper (Carhart) and Adam Cudmore also had good games.”
